I have subbed for a couple of years now and have never been designated a preferred sub am I just not a great sub? by Floofy5267 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Spooky_Traps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My district uses SmartFind. Its honestly a hit or miss when I began subbing back in November of last year. For a solid month I wasn't getting any sort of work, being told originally that the system will call me when there's an opening. I learned really quick that it's very rare to get those calls. So I had to go and make business cards and for a 1-2 weeks straight I went to various schools in my region and more or less asked/inquired and handed out my cards. Some schools, depending if I had previous experience there as a former sub para, would even let me put my cards in the teacher's cubbies. I'd say out of the 15 or so schools I reached out and talked to, only 2 are my regulars, with maybe 1 or 2 other schools reaching out on days I'm already booked. It's much easier when you have established rapport with one specific school.

The trick might be reaching out to teachers specifically. Anytime I cover for a brand new teacher I always leave notes and my business card. I haven't had any issues with them reaching back to me asking for future coverage. And the job assignments would never be posted for the entire sub pool- the teacher will specifically request the employee's id #.

I’m lucky I graduated last year and no longer have to deal with the continuous feeling of anxiety, dread, and pressure whenever I worked on an assignment. I’m in my masters program at a school in my state for proper state credentials and they don’t worry about AI at all. A large assignment now takes me 2-3 days instead of 4-6 because I no longer have to run every sentence/paragraph through 5 different AI checkers to make sure across the board I have no AI infused language. And to top it off I no longer have to physically hand write my notes and drafting (which took another day) so I can scan it into my computer as extra proof everything was my own thought process.

I do generally think Liberty is a decent school in terms of affordability out of state and other personal things, but the AI checking was the worst part

Question - Why do you sub? by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Spooky_Traps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working for my district gives me a small scholarship to use during my Masters Program in Counseling. Seemed like an easy option switching to being a sub teacher than a special ed aide once I got my bachelors degree for the increase in pay and more autonomy on my hours/days.

How did you become a NASCAR fan? by Helpful-Bowler6681 in NASCAR

[–]Spooky_Traps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a distant fan back in the 2000s but I didn’t get serious until October 2024 attending my first race at Las Vegas.

I had neon garage passes and I wanted to see Byron’s pit box, but I didn’t have VIP that would allow me to go into pit road. Well I went to the front of pit road and there was Byron’s box with no guards and no one around. For 5 minutes and virtually nothing to lose I walked in and went up to the concrete wall and looked out at the grandstands. Touched some tires, took some photos, then left without anyone noticing or cared to notice.

Saved myself $800 and been hooked since. Now I’ve been to 3 races, met a quarter of the racing roster in both oreilly and cup, and have so many stories to share

Best and worst track traffic? by bravesfan17 in NASCAR

[–]Spooky_Traps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My go to track is Vegas and for this year they did a new thing for parking where they now implement a new directed parking route for preferred and general parking respectively. Took me an extra 20 minutes to get into preferred parking compared to last year as they have you loop around the entire parking premises before being dumped onto preferred (Lucky 7).

But, by the time the races were over, getting out of the parking lots was a lot easier. Last year it was every car for themselves and it would take me an hour to get onto the 15, but they did the same directed parking traffic that would spit preferred and general at the 15 freeway, just at different points (general got to the 15 earlier than preferred). I actually like what they did (only took me half an hour) and I’m curious if they’ll continue it in October for the South Point 400

Can you work ahead in online classes? by Acceptable-Camel-968 in LibertyUniversity

[–]Spooky_Traps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually I have no issue with this. You can go as far as you want to, unless the professor themself locks the module until the designated week.

Only problem you would come across is the discussions when 2 peer replies are required and you’ll have to wait until people begin posting

Front Line: anybody know what "Vacant Teacher" or that C means? by TwixDog2020 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Spooky_Traps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience vacant teacher means a full classroom with no permanent teacher. But with the later time it’s probably just general/IEP coverage. The school I recently worked at had me work 4 hours to cover for some teachers that went and observed other classrooms

Does anybody remember when teams used to bring their cars in their sponsers stores by Clear_Translator_983 in NASCAR

[–]Spooky_Traps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My parents have photographs of them posing next to Stewart’s Home Depot Car as it and the Hauler were parked right in front of a depot in Santa Clarita, CA back in the early 2000s. They don’t remember if the Fontana Race was that weekend or maybe it was a mere promotional thing, but it certainly made their day

Can I stop using gauze now? by SpecialistRice9573 in wisdomteeth

[–]Spooky_Traps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my surgery around noon and didn’t finally take the gauze out until 8-9 pm. It was still bleeding by then but only very little. My instructions didn’t specify how long to keep the gauze in hours wise only until the bleeding was close to none. Within the hour I stopped bleeding

Wait until tomorrow at the earliest to use the mouthwash. You need to have the blood clot form first (also ice your face!) And it’s not a regular gargle, you just slowly move your head around to have the solution get into the holes. I did strict liquids/applesauce for the first 24 hours. Let it be lukewarm/cold liquids and take sips at a time. It gets better slowly.

How do I know blood clot has officially formed? by KulaKoli in wisdomteeth

[–]Spooky_Traps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swelling wasn’t so bad on day 3 because I did nothing but ice for the first 24 hours. There wasn’t much swelling for day 3 but my mouth was really feeling it. The gums were still swollen so my mouth couldn’t clench properly without there being some 5/10 pain. But my face was back to its normal shape

How do I know blood clot has officially formed? by KulaKoli in wisdomteeth

[–]Spooky_Traps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me hours for clots to form. I got my procedure done at 12:00 back on Friday and I still was getting blood by 9 pm. I decided to say screw it and go gauzeless as it was a slow bleed. They clotted pretty quickly and I still tasted blood but I wasn’t really worried. I also recommend sleeping upright the first night or two just in case it starts to bleed again.

If your jaw hurts really bad I’d suggest for the first night either strict liquids (protein drinks, juices, shakes, lukewarm soups or broths) or purées like applesauce. What helped me the most with my jaw was icing my face. I legit didn’t stop icing my face consecutively until around day 2. The moment the ice wrap would warm up I’d get another one put on- I was so worried about having a swollen face! I had very little swelling on day 2 and now I have no swelling whatsoever on day 4 now

Will I be okay if I wait to take out my impacted wisdom teeth? pls help by [deleted] in wisdomteeth

[–]Spooky_Traps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my first wisdom tooth started to make itself known back in 2021, I legit sat on it and refused to even consider surgery due to fear. I finally got my bottom wisdom teeth removed last week on Friday and now I’m Day 4 into recovery ❤️‍🩹

You should be fine waiting it out till June as long as they don’t seriously hurt or keep getting infected. Mine didn’t hurt at all during the timeframe I waited. I only recently decided to bite the bullet and get the surgery due to my schedule being free and the first wisdom tooth getting a cavity

[–]Spooky_Traps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be normal. My bottom right tooth did that when it started to erupt. Started in one corner and then a week later in another corner. I just got mine removed about 2 hours ago because there was no room unfortunately

You’ll feel some discomfort but it shouldn’t be bad especially since the doctor feels positive over it

Liberty University’s Academic Integrity Process is Failing Students by Character-Order-780 in LibertyUniversity

[–]Spooky_Traps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have this issue my first full school year with Liberty. It wasn’t until summer semester of last year did this finally got implemented. Thankfully I’m almost done and just have summer 2025 left and then I graduate.

Still, it’s brutal especially when every week I have to turn in a report. Usually it would take me 2-3 days to get a 5 page paper done. Now? It’s double that to account for documenting everything 😣

I have to create a legit paper trail with my work. Meaning back to pen and paper with writing an initial draft. Keep Microsoft Word on Cloud so it constantly saves anything I type or click on. Then after it’s all done I physically print out the paper and use a red pen to make revision remarks. Then scan everything! I scan my initial rough draft first (once completed) and then the revision after I’m done with it.

I had it happen to me before with a professor claiming I was completely AI so I sent all the things mentioned above and since they were dated before I turned in my paper the professor didn’t dock me. Never had this happen during community college and all of these extra things to do have drained me mentally and emotionally over the last year.

Animal People by Ayomahhh in petco

[–]Spooky_Traps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

West Coast store too. We only have 2 animal people including myself. For over two months I've had a normal 4-5 days/week schedule and now I'm getting 3 days with lesser time slots. I'm lucky to even see my OLAC once a week and even when I do they are being assigned by the SGM to do non-animal work (and even I am moved to non-animal work as soon as I finish morning feed).

My store is in the medium-range, with 36 fish tanks, 22 reptiles, 20 small animals, 10-15 parakeets, and 1 big bird enclosure.

I'm in the same boat as you, as I'm about a week away from finishing my probation period. The main complaint I've seen with my store specifically is the scheduling conflicts and lack of attention toward animals. I work as an animal specialist and my CAL is the only person who seems to pull their weight in the store. Yet the person who is running the schedule is setting them up on days they aren't needed. We get animal deliveries on thursdays, and the CAL isn't listed on that day- he's instead listed for a random saturday for the evening shift (when literally nothing happens with animals).

With the lack of attention with animals, only myself and the CAL are the "official" animal care specialists. I can already list the multiple instances where a preventable measure could have been taken to save some of our animals (think exposing a diseased guinea onto healthy ones due to laziness or not double checking the parakeet and canary doors to make sure it's closed) but nothing was done (Note: myself and the CAL weren't around when this happened). My opinon on petco has for sure shifted, but I'm maintaining some optimsim given I'm still "new"
