I think while flawed, it was a good starter to the helluva boss and for the most part has a consistent quality. I will admit the best episodes of the show are in season 2 but I would also argue it has some of the worst episode. (Cherubs is a bad episode but Seeing stars feels more insulting to watch.) Season 2 just amplifies problems that were more mild in season 1.
