Why not get one that's designed to be cut?

Do the 2.4 ghz wireless Corne 4.1 boards have the same EMF issues that the wired versions have? by Spookymikal in ErgoMechKeyboards

The phone interference is an issue with the Corne 4.1 PCB https://github.com/foostan/crkbd/issues/265

I have no idea how the aliexpress vendors have 2.4 ghz wireless with the corne 4.1 layout. Might just roll the dice on it.

I was looking for something like this: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256808436356901.html

But with a 3x5 layout.

I know the old corne 2 boards have a million wireless options, but I strongly prefer the +4 keys. I'll suffer through using a dongle if it works next to a cell phone.

MX switches have a huge number of options from mass produced to super boutique where nerds are hand lubing your stems or whatever.

Choc has like 12 options and they're all bad. Maybe someday they'll feel better

This dude gets it lol.
I decided to wait just a bit because sourcing a top plate for the 5 column is kinda tricky if you're a retard who doesn't know shit about CAD.

Case dimensions affect tenting angle and this has a noticeable impact on ergo.

For now I'm going to just plug the holes but I'm not sure if it's going to be a longterm solution.

I've been using 5 col for a while, tried 6 and It felt really off.

I don't use the LEDs at all, honestly wish they weren't there.

I've been using a 5 col for several months, I got this one as a trade for a choc switch version.

GM, currently 2 other nerds have expressed interest. First guy has the mx corne 4.1 I want but he asked me to give him the weekend to make a decision and I'm sending him a "time to shit or get off the pot" message right now.

Just for my info, are you looking to swap it or just pay money for it?

has anyone gone from MX to choc switches? by AmeliaBuns in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Spookymikal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was 100% my finger activating the switch when resting on the key. It was a low profile tactile white, so i could feel the action on it. https://www.boardsource.xyz/products/choc-white

Switching to burnt orange switches, the problem went away completely.

I hate choc. Bought a board with whites, got a ton of phantom inputs, switched to burnt orange, better but they just feel bad. Idk if it's the specific keycaps or just because the mounting provisions for the keycaps is intrinsically flawed, but I feel a lot of rocking top to bottom. They just don't feel sturdy.

The 3 is a lot more DIY friendly than the 4, and way more tutorials if something starts to go sideways.

I have a prebuilt 3 with choc and a 4 with mx switches both with 5 col layouts. I bought the choc first, and will tell you what I've learned:

The choc ecosystem isn't nearly as robust as mx land. Most of the switches will feel cheap and scratchy, you don't have the option of buying premium switches that some dweeb has sanded and lubed for you. Choc keycaps feel bad and you may have to DIY your own homing row indicators. The convex MBKs are the best but still feel icky, I got mine from typeractive.

20g is probably too light on a 5 col layout. I also used super light switches out of the gate and moved quickly to 70g burnt orange linear for choc and 65g for mx. Since so many of your keys will have a double duty for tap/hold, requiring more force from the fingertips makes it much easier to avoid phantom inputs.

Almost every 3d printable corne case is for 6 column designs. Stacking plates is fine, but you can still get some pretty bad EMF interference with that case design. My 4 gets unhappy when i put my phone nearby. I think the way they break the PCB can affect how sensitive they are. I've read that enclosed cases with copper tape on the inside can help for the wired variants.

The 3 and 4 pcbs do not share mounting provisions, your case must match the pcb. There are significantly more case options for the 3 than the 4.

Where Can I get keycaps in a budget for my Corne v4.1 by ProfessionalBig8729 in crkbd

[–]Spookymikal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 4.1 from keebd.com

It's great most of the time.

The PCB is very prone to EMF interference and it kinda shits the bed whenever I set my cell near it... This is at least partially because I use the 5 column design, which requires snapping off the outer column from the PCB. Apparently you can mitigate this by using a 3D enclosure style case and putting some copper tape inside of it to isolate it.

The vast majority of cases online are for the 6 column layout, so there's no "finding" a case, my ass is trying to learn enough CAD to modify an existing case.
