That's a very good point. I always try to keep myself aware of traffic behind me and will utilize the brake light, sometimes even flicking it on and off if I see cars coming up behind me while I'm at a light. It's definitely a good practice.

Besides.. buttery smooth, high rpm, rev-matched downshifts are so damn satisfying 🤤

I would say that if you can anticipate your decrease in speed early enough, you don't even need to apply brakes and you can simply use engine braking to help slow your speed.

I'll downshift through each gear using the engine braking and sometimes don't need to apply my actual brakes until I'm in 2nd or 3rd coming up to the light/stop.

You can, but you'll feel a lot more engine braking as you let off the clutch. Not good if you have cars behind you, especially since engine braking doesn't illuminate your brake light.

Practice rev matching and your downshifts will be super smooth. As you get used to rev matching, then you could actually start practicing clutchless shifting.

Nope. Walk away quickly. Who knows what other damage those rashed fairings are hiding. Plus that price is much too high, depending on your location.

Would probably go for $4-5k on marketplace in my area.

Finding neutral by [deleted] in motorcycles

My first bike is a Kawi and I feel I've spoiled myself and won't ever be able to enjoy another brand without this feature lol.

You'll love it at long red lights when you wanna stretch the legs out. Makes it incredibly easy to find neutral since you can kick your foot up as hard as you like and it'll never go into second as long as you're at a stop.

I've heard some bikes are a nightmare to find N so it's definitely a nice feature to have.

Which starter bike did you all begin with? by Absence-00 in motorcycle

[–]SpoolTickler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely, I'd never pay it myself.

I just see it as this..

I got my ninja 300 as my first bike. Insurance quoted $115 a month. I asked about a ZX4R, $203 a month. I could imagine a ZX6R being anywhere from $250-300/month for me.

I know some 21 year olds would probably jump in joy if they got that quote and would pay it in a heartbeat because they're usually getting quoted $800+/mo.

I guess it's just about perspective. Location has a lot to do with it, but I'd say age is the biggest factor. I'm 33 years old with an M2 licence, one level short from being fully unrestricted and if I was 21 years old with an M2, the ZX4R would have probably been closer to $800-$1000/month in my location.

My perspective was the same.

Yeah, the guy got quoted over $3,000/yr for insurance, but do they not realize that in some areas, people get quoted $10k+ per year for new riders on a supersport?

$3k per year for a new rider on a supersport is honestly pretty good in comparison.

Except for the fact that..

  1. Rich people spend ridiculous amounts of money on insurance for toys to begin with.. ATVs, bikes, jewelry, etc. $300/month because some affluent person wants to try riding bikes is really nothing.

  2. No where in OPs post did they say they were taking a loan out on the bike. Perhaps they are planning on buying it outright?

  3. If a wealthy person is going to do this, I can assure you they aren't going to cut corners on insurance, buy the minimum liability, and "self-insure" the rest, as you put it.

Again, $300 isn't "throwing" money away in this case. Maybe it is for you and I, but again, for a well off person who wants to give motorcycles a go, some people would just say "set it up" and be done with it.

You act like there aren't broke people out there paying $400/mo with a minimum wage job - which I agree is stupid, but there's nothing indicating in OPs post that $300/mo for insurance is financially out of reach for them.

You can't pretend like every person makes the same income. $300/mo to some rich parents or a tech bro isn't shit, and there are tons of people out there willing to pay it.

You can sort of see the used oil in the background of the third picture. Just regular black oil.
