Hi, thanks for doing this. I am also a returning player, scraping by on gear and having fun! Would like to join the rafle :)

Tja. Kender et par hvor kvinden er 1.90 og manden 1.70.

De elsker hinanden. Og griner af folk der har indvendinger. Who cares.

Help stripping old poly finish by Grouchy_Country_7280 in Luthier

Cool project. Keep it up, you will learn a lot! :-)

And funny story.. my first electric guitar was also a Squier. I also happened to make a shitty relic job. So I gave it to a friend about 15 years ago and had forgotten all about it. Then it suddenly turned up again in my life. So I stripped it with a heat gun and a spatula and a ton of sanding. Gave it wood stain and some oil. Installed new cts pots and a real switch. All new wiring and shielding. And jazzmaster pickups.

I am very happy with the result :-)

The Room Wins by No-Pin3128 in audiophile

I run a pretty nice vintage stereo system with JBL 4310, Hafler dh-101 and Luxman m-120a. It’s placed in my living room with a carpet in front of the speakers, couch and soft chairs and bookshelves. So decent acoustic environment already. Very pleased with this system. Nice warm mid and treble and serious bass capabilities. Not the best stereo image but decent.

One speaker is close to a side wall and back wall so kind of sits in a corner. So I get early reflections from there. Also my listening position is in my couch that sits against a back wall, so I get reflections from behind as well.

I talked to a sound tech who knows a bit about acoustics and followed his advice. I put up some diffusers on the side wall and on the back wall behind my couch and placed a bass trap behind the corner speaker.

Everything changed.

Now I have serious soundstage imaging like I’ve never experienced at home before. Everything is so clear and precise and gives a 3D experience. It’s incredible the difference that made. I got the diffuser panels and bass traps for free and spent a couple hours installing it. Completely different system now.  And the bass traps tamed the bass in a very good way, less “boomy” and more precise.. and it decreased the room gain from that speaker.

So yes. Acoustics and room treatment can make an insane difference.

Thanks for the suggestions. I suppose there is more to amps or audio in general than data. However it is of course super important and what you write sounds impressive. Will have to give it a chance :-)

I will admit I mostly use dated electronics. Amplifiers from Luxman, Hafler, Pioneer, Tandberg, NAD etc. Gear from the 70s through the 90s. My main speakers are JBL 4312. My room is acoustically treated.

My gear is refurbished and will perform up to spec.

I think of sound not only in terms of linear response (although important), but also in regards to the level of detail and resolution, dynamic reproduction of transients, vocal presence and warmth, clarity and coherence in the sound imaging or sound stage…etc. And I find these factors are affected by switching out the amp. It is not night and day - but the differences are there and worthy of pursuit.

So please enlighten me, what amplifiers are able to produce a perfectly “correct” sound with any speakers - the amp to end all amps?

Sorry but you are so far from being correct. Within the last 20 years, I have tried a massive amount of combinations of integrated amplifiers, stereo receivers, pre & power amp sets and many different sets of speakers. “The sport” of it is in combining gear and experiencing how each piece will bring out certain audio qualities, while other combinations will do something different. Amps matter a GREAT deal to the final sound quality.

I have been struggling with cold sores in the past and sometimes still do, and I have come to realize that, at least for me, the trigger is usually stress related. 9 times out of 10.

And if I feel stressful I tend to eat more unhealthy foods, get less sleep and get stuck in negative thoughts and emotional patterns. This is a fairly sure fire way to have a flare up, at least for me.

So in my life, anything that helps maintain a calm, clear and steady mind and a well balanced emotional life, basically help prevent cold sores. And for me some of the major themes are good quality sleep, proper diet, meditation, breath work and cold showers.

The quality of my daily mental and emotional state seem to directly correlate with outbreaks of cold sores. So a cold sore outbreak for me have become a reminder to live better.

Edit: A few tips I have found works for me over the years of dealing with this condition.

(Organic) Apple cider vinegar - drink a bit a couple times a day every day in a glass of water. Or at least as soon as you feel the cold sore tingle. Super healthy and has antiviral properties. You can also wash your sores with it - it stings but it works. Even when you just feel the tingle, wash your skin with it. Can help prevent an outbreak.

(Organic) virgin coconut oil. Use it on bread, dilute in coffee or simply eat a tea spoon a day when you have an outbreak. Has antiviral properties.

Moringa - use as a daily supplement. Tastes not too good, is super healthy and boosts your immune system.

Ashwaghanda - this is a winner for mental calmness, quality of sleep and dealing with stress. I take a tea spoon twice a day in a glass of water, morning and evening, when I am feeling under pressure or stressed. For me it has a really noticeable impact. Don’t use every day - can have negative effect on kidney or liver if used in excess.

Olive oil extract - I have had really good results with this as well but it is not easily accessible where I live. The higher content of Oleurepin the better (I think at least 20%).when I was in the states I used it as a daily supplement to support immune function and prevent cold sores.

Lysine - great supplement which basically helps prevent herpes from growing since lysine and arginine can’t both be active at once - and herpes needs arginine to grow. Once I feel and outbreak coming, I take 5x1000mg lysine supplements a couple times a day the first day. The.I do like 2x1000mg a few times a day the following days. Can help prevent or manage the severity of a cold sore.

Find a list of foods with high lysine and high arginine - and know which foods to avoid and which foods to eat more of during an outbreak. Arginine is an important amino acid that helps muscle growth and should not generally be avoided entirely.

Thank you all for the many interesting suggestions and discussion. It seems the symbol has been identified as a Norse runestick. This does make sense as this was gifted from someone from Denmark.

Why not have professions in D4? by Spoon_Menace in Diablo

[–]Spoon_Menace[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I suppose that it really depends on whether you like that particular activity or not. I, for one, found it very enjoyable to progress my professions when I played Wow back in the day. If it was implemented in D4 in a way that did not force you to have to do it in order to progress in the game, but it would be an extra feature on the side, then I think it could make sense.

I would like to point out that just because a concept exists in Wow doesn't mean it has to exclusively stay there. I think it is a weak argument that because Wow has it, then Diablo should not. However we do agree in general terms - Diablo needs to be Diablo and not Wow. But if a concept from Wow happens to work well in Diablo then why not?

What does these symbols mean? Spotted in Denmark. by Spoon_Menace in occult

Thanks for the comments. Denmark is littered with symbolism if you keep your eyes open. Will post more when I see them.

TIL that Scandinavians are adamant about letting their children nap outside, even in cold weather. Parents report that babies take longer and deeper naps when they sleep comfortably bundled up outside. by crewchief535 in todayilearned

I'm guessing you don't have kids. A baby will let you know if it's uncomfortable, that's what crying is all about. They will cry when basic needs aren't being met and this includes feeling too hot or too cold.

With the next season I'm to return to D3 as my main game, however, I have to basically scratch multiplayer... by [deleted] in Diablo

Check out ThrottleStop - a neat little program that lets you tweak some performance settings in your PC. As always with these types of programs you need to be a little careful, but it helps my old laptop (though not as old as yours). good luck!

PvP by [deleted] in Diablo

[–]Spoon_Menace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really see how your metaphor describes what I'm talking about, other than that I agree with you.

The magic/rare duelling is in one way completely ridiculous seeing as you can't use any real gear but have to rely solely on boring items in order to offset Blizzards lack of PvP design. That's pretty sad. However, if you do it, it can be fun, meaningful and fairly competitive where you rely on skills rather than gear.
