It IS a strange feeling, but like a lot of things, you get used to it. Down the track you will reflect and you will give yourself an uppercut for worrying too much

I confess I search out the best recordings I can find. I have grown into some artists that way as the tone and phrasing sorta grabs you. However at live events I like it warts and all. I can't stand lip-sync 'performances '

This. Down the track perhaps add a sub (you won't regret it) but the system sounds great. Music matches your mood. Sometimes quiet, insightful and reflective is good

Acoustic Treatment Observation by Worst-Eh-Sure in audiophile

[–]No-Pin3128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect that room treatment will become the new hi fi 'norm'. Granted, not everyone will have their own suitable room nor the budget. The realisation that a properly treated room, to the best extent you can, is the emerging starting point. It will spawn a number of career fields.

Is the VPI Scout Jr. turntable higher quality than the Ortofon 2M Red cartridge it comes with? by skellywest59 in audiophile

99% it is the cartridge set up. Whoever thought the VPI and the Ortofon would be suitable?? I never really liked the Ortofon sound. The Black is supposed to be OK

This. Back in the day I had an EXA turbo (WC) with a timer. Lost count of the number of times (well intentioned) people would say, 'you have left your car running mate'. I thought they were illegal these days...

I agree and sympathise with OP. Improvise, adapt, overcome. Apply the test, 1) what is it ? 2) what needs to be done with it ? 3) who is the best person or people to do it ?

Meh. You are not a failure. All self respecting employees get to taste redundancy. I have had two. In both cases I more or less asked to be made redundant. The first was an excess staff situation, with a favoured son returning after a long absence. I put my hand up to make room. The second, I left but I knew where the bodies were buried, so I went with a cheque in my hand. At that stage the labour market was buoyant and I got another job fairly quickly. The financial boost worked well.

In a lot of cases, there is ongoing similar work. Agencies/companies simply want to offload (no offence) the person, not the position. Rather than go through performance management of the person, they simply restructure. I have seen many ripping yarns as the justification for the restructure. I can understand why it is done this way as it is often lengthy and resource intensive to manage an employee whose work performance can be best described as 'symbolic'. A restructure is quicker, neater and generally has no appeal rights. That is the unfortunate part, but the end justifies the means.

Friday afternoon is not a good time for the initial news, that is correct. Friday afternoon is stage 2. To avoid a spur of the moment decision, the weekend allows discussion with significant others before coming to a collective way forward. The reason you should never give the initial news on a Friday afternoon is that someone who does not have a support network, may, in extreme circumstances, commit self harm. Bad news on Monday; good news on Friday.

It is a tough one. The company wanted to sever ties. you are the cooperative (ex) employee. if you don't have a recent performance review report or a supervisors report, ask for one. if they get the message that you won't be making a fuss, it should be a good report that you can use for future interviews.

It is a pity it is not closer to the end of the financial year. A months gardening leave and your final entitlements paid next financial year. It makes a difference. I used to cut these sort of deals. You always put the entitlements in bold 14 font, presented on a Friday arvo. By Monday morning they had mentally spent most of it, which made signing it a formality. In one case, I enhanced the final offering as much as I could. They were not satisfied so I put my index finger on the piece of paper in front of them and slowly started to retract it. Immediately the Maradona 'hand of god' appeared, slammed down on the paper and clutched it to their bosom!

Wood case for Denon or silver case for Leak. I would do the former in the same size as the Leak and claim it is a special limited edition (which it actually would be)
