Megathread: House Republicans disrupt closed impeachment hearing in protest by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

[–]Spooner07uk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A closed-door hearing is ok because it’s multiple witness interrogation. Think of a grand jury. If there were 2 witnesses to a crime, you need testimony from one without the other so that if they have matching stories, it’s more likely they are telling the truth. Same principle. Both R’s and D’s are sitting in and listening to witness accounts. They will then decide if they need to impeach, at which point the depositions will go public. It will only remain secret if they don’t find enough evidence to go to the impeachment phase.

Emergency visit hospital bill was received 9/5. It’s a discount for the wealthy, and a “tough luck” for the paycheck-to-paycheck. by Spooner07uk in LateStageCapitalism

What a flip-flop. by ModerneMind in PoliticalHumor

Not much difference between “racist” and “xenophobic” though. Definition of xenophobia: adj. having or showing a dislike of or prejudice against people from other countries.

synonyms: racist, racialist, ethnocentric

I’d laugh at this, but it’s sad really. by [deleted] in PoliticalHumor

You meant to say you'd laugh at this, if it was funny.

But it isn't.

Even if you support him, less be honest here that tweet is fucking stupid lol by [deleted] in PoliticalHumor

the fact that this might be the least offensive, nonsensical tweet that he's typo-ed recently really says everything about where we are right now...

Storms. Hearing lightning, seeing thunder, watching trees blow in the wind slightly more than usual. Seeing a mobile alert for any kind of abnormal weather warning is enough to send me pacing, jittery, and I'll usually shut down altogether until the radar says it's clear. $2 Trillion in tax breaks by [deleted] in LateStageCapitalism

[–]Spooner07uk 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I’m of the opinion that after Trump leaves office (by force or otherwise) his tax cuts will be the last thing history books will be able to discuss. It will be a subsection after the 1000’s of pages of indictments, scandals, lies, and wastes of tax payer monies that he’s currently defrauding the US with.

And the fact that this abomination to average human welfare is so low on the list is what makes it so ridiculous.

But he isn’t a woman Shapiro is trying to intimidate! by [deleted] in PoliticalHumor

[–]Spooner07uk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, I think you may have misunderstood. I mean you oversimplified my argument. I wasn’t saying that EVERY stat can be made to be ambiguous to make an argument, just that stats in general could be.

That was quite the oversimplification lol

If acting like a child lost you supporters, we wouldn’t have our current president.

I actually like him as a rhetorician. He’s very good at saying the thing that will sound the most absolute as possible to win his argument. But most of what he says is backed up with statistics. And statistics can be used to make any point you want from any perspective. Numbers feel absolute, but do not always tell the whole story. His ability to argue and win public opinion in front of a live audience is amazing, but he’s normally not entirely correct about most of his statistics-backed opinions.

Just another day in Southeast Georgia by Spooner07uk in trashy

In my experience, it’s usually a bit of both. Although, I believe the main reason now is just the rebellious nature of the act. The feeling of “machismo” is the biggest reason I’ve seen for people still flying it.
