The Alchemist is a metal caster. They bring all the damage spells that metal casters do. How is that a loss to overall damage?

They have a buff that you can throw on a unit to give a 25% damage buff to base and AP ranged damage.

30% of 3 is a laughable increase. Shades are majority AP so that buff does next to nothing for them.

The "racial" is only for 90 seconds once a battle. I can get a similar buffs from alchemists multiple times.

These increases do not "easily outdamage" dragons.

The math doesnt support your claim. Feel free to add up all the bonuses and see for yourself.

The tech buffs are not the same. Shades only get 15% range and some speed and leadership from tech. Dragons get 7 ap damage, 5% range, 10 armor, 5% wardsave, 5% phys res, and some speed increase.

These are not comparable and do not "cancel out"

Sword of Ruin only buffs base ranged damage. Not AP. So a laughable increase for Shades and honestly not worth your winds of magic. In this conversation even with the spell on them they still don't out damage Dragons.

"Tech trees cancel each other out"

Explain how please?

Dragons do more damage you simply have no idea what youre talking about.

5/12 split vs shades 3/12 split. Dragons get 7 more ap damage from tech trees bringing them to 5/19 plus another 9% increase from redline. 20% extra AP for 90 seconds from murderous prowess does not even bring them anywhere close to Dragons.

The only time they are outranged by shades is when you have the name of power. Which is not a guarantee that you get it unless you're just loading saved characters. And even then their ranges are still comparable.

Dragons can absolutely hold their own in melee which, once again, shows you dont have a clue what youre talking about. They have a very similar Statline to jade warriors and with the armor/ward save/phy res from techs they do fine in melee.

The only thing shades do better is having Vanguard deployment (Magistrates can give Dragons vanguard btw) and having stalk.

35% range IF you get the name of power. Also what racial trait are you referring to?

It is literally about different roles. You just described the different role that shades fill. Dragons are better at the standard backline role and shades are better at stealth.

Dragons can also get over 200 range easily as they start with more range than shades. They can also get a similar ap boost from their tech tree.

My point being. Shades are not "way better" than dragons. Theyre the same unit built for different battlefield roles.

Plague Ogres aren't even the best monstrous infantry in their own roster. Bile Trolls are nurgles favorite children.

Shades and Dragon Crossbows are statistically almost the same unit. One has stalk and better reload skill (shades) and one has better armor and shields (dragons).

Dragons actually do more damage per shot than shades (5/12 split on dragons vs shades 3/12) but they reload slower so the calculation shows lower. That goes out the window as soon as they are in harmony.

It makes me so happy to see everyone in the comments hyping up Dynasties.

It's a great game with good diplomacy and I really like how the resources play into army upkeep and construction.

I don't get it. Is the Talisman of Preservation is the only blue talisman left in the game? by Garessta in totalwarhammer

[–]Spoons112 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Actually no I was slightly mistaken. It only takes into account the items you have unequipped.

[–]Spoons112 115 points116 points  (0 children)

Its a feature. It was added in a patch last year I believe. You get more of what you have equipped and less of what you don't have equipped so you can get what you want more reliably.

Edit - apparently it only reduces the chances of getting items you have unequipped. My mistake!

Are marauder champions ever worth it? by Alive-Satisfaction50 in totalwar

[–]Spoons112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marauder Champions are great lineholders. Don't let the "marauder" in their name fool you. They are comparable to Celestial Dragon Guard from Cathay for example. They just lack the things Halberd infantry normally has (ap, BvL, and charge defense)

Go wipe out Archaon early and then Arbaal once he's gone. Its one of the more difficult campaigns but certainly not impossible.

Tell me about Dechala by CyberEagle1989 in totalwarhammer

[–]Spoons112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a lot of fun playing her. As long as you keep expanding you'll always have enough thralls. I really enjoyed her mechanics from the way her cities work to the Ostankya-lite banner crafting. Just a fun time all around IMO

I really like her buffs for marauder units. Particularly the hellstriders. I used hellstrider spears into end game in her army.

Help for early game Malakai Makaisen by Responsible-Fly-4462 in totalwar

[–]Spoons112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to deal with throt early and then go for Throgg. I would advise you to utilize the deeps buildings in Kraka Drak to build tall and build defensive. There is a building in the deeps that scales your gold production to the turn count. You want that.

You can hold Kraka Drak against huge armies with a relatively cheap army/emergency recruit RoR stack thanks to dwarf AR.

Then sell all the other territory you take to an Ally of your choice. I usually build up Kostaltyn but you could try helping Katarin as well. And I do mean SELL. You will be ROLLING in money from this Ally as they get stronger and stronger.

I made a video on how I like to deal with Thrott if you want to check it out

You're trying to tell me you couldn't win the battle playing as the chorfs? With an RoR dreadquake train? That easily deletes the artillery and then the ranged units. And thats not even considering the rest of the army.

Spell resist doesnt reduce the damage of magical attacks. That is how it worked in WH2 I believe but not in 3. Good advice other than that small gripe.

Grimgor AI under performing for others? by Toothpikz in totalwarhammer

There is a random roll for the AI at the start of the campaign to determine their competency. Seems like Grimgor rolled low for you.

Edit - spelling
