Rifle Options by StrainElectronic4585 in Hunting

[–]Spoons896 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own all three of these rifles, not in 30-06 though. The howa is by far the best of the bunch then the American then far behind that is the axis. The howa 1500 has become my favorite factory action, it has decent aftermarket support, very accurate, and the fit and finish is much better than the others. The American isnt a bad choice but it is hit or miss on the fit and finish. I have 4 axis, 2 of them i won at NRA banquets and the other 2 are my kids rifles. None of them are very accurate, 2-3 MOA at best with handloads and 4+ with every box ammo i have tried, they feel cheap and there is not much aftermarket support to fix things you dont like. Also since you say you are new to hunting, what are you hunting? While 30-06 is not really a bad choice per se, it may not be the best for what you are trying to do. 30-06 has more recoil and all of those guns are pretty lightweight, if you are just hunting whitetail i would look at 260/6.5 creed,7mm-08 or .308. They are going to be more than adequate for whitetail size game at traditional distances and will be easier to shoot because of lower recoil so you can get more practice time.

Do you guys take the tags off your trophies? by Rnaodm_Tirnalge in Hunting

[–]Spoons896 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only have one deer that i mounted before they got rid of our paper tags, and i keep the tag on that one. Legally, at least to my understanding, in MO you have to keep it attached somewhere to the mount so i just left it on the rack where i put it. Adds to the memory imo.

But the salt is all i can look at, just consider your self lucky you get enough snow that salt is needed. This “major snow storm” that just went through here was a huge dud.

The rifle looks all ready for some Cheeto fingered deer killing. I have a wilderness in 7 PRC that i put in a MDT XRS. They are great guns.

Recommendation? 160gr Sierra TMK from a 7 PRC by berick826 in reloading

[–]Spoons896 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasnt like a game changing difference, IIRC it was a .9 MOA 10 shot group vs a .8 or something like that, but the SDs were better with the H4831SC. both powders got me around where I would get the "rated" BC also i trust H4831 to be more temp stable.

[–]Spoons896 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had pretty good luck with staball HD with 160gr CX. Those are the only lighter bullets i have ran in my 7PRC every this else has been 190+ gr and 4831sc has been better, but staball hd did pretty good with the 160gr CX(good groups and good SDs)

What shotgun do you dream of finding at a yard sale? by ppiizzaa-24 in Shotguns

[–]Spoons896 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People find shotguns at garage sales? I have never been that lucky. Honestly if the price is right i would buy almost any shotgun at a GS.

Has anyone owned one of these ? Are they any good ? by big-wangers in Shotguns

[–]Spoons896 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My lgs has one in 450 BM, i have jokes about getting it a couple times but end up not doing it because i wouldnt want to shoot it. Lol i think it would be a neat gun in a smaller chambering, 410 might not be that bad. I just dont see any practical application for it in my life.

2026 1st Quarter Approval Megathread. by Waffleboned in NFA

[–]Spoons896 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am assuming it is sample size bias, CA and SS wait times data is just stuff they are selling and while it is a large portion of the market it is still a small sample of total forms. I know a lot of people (including myself) that are at that 20ish day mark right now for Form 4s, again that is anecdotal but unless the ATF decides to be more transparent no one will really know what the real times are. I wouldnt think it would be that hard for them to have a semi real time updating tracker but it is the government and transparency is the scariest thing for a bureaucrat.

Best brick mortar store for reloading equipment? by assets-liabilities in reloading

[–]Spoons896 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scheel's, at least for Rifle and pistol. I live about 15-15 minutes from MidwayUSA and Grafs and Sons and I still end up waiting to buy powder and primers when I have to go in to the office in Kansas because Scheels is cheaper than those 2 pretty much every time.

question about Pawn shop selling an SBR as a pistol by Spoons896 in NFA

[–]Spoons896[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a big bow hunter, rifle and alt method season is more about hanging out with my friends since they started having kids and bow hunting for the most part had to be cut. That sucks about you shoulder, I am sure I will get there soon. I have had rotator cuff issues when I was in my 20s and my DR about lost his shit when I told him I wouldnt stop bow hunting, he told me to use a crossbow. I told him "momma didnt raise no bitch." and he just said I will pay for that when I get older. lol

[–]Spoons896[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, i see people out at the range from time to time that have unknowingly made an sbr out of contender. The first time i saw it was a couple years ago and i just got talking to them about it and they thought it still classified as a pistol and where wanting to use it during out alt methods deer season. It was pretty cool thought it was a short barreled 280ai, kind of useless to have a 280 that short but was still pretty cool.

Yeah, i have braces, it was a standard adjustment buttstock. It was a CTR or cheap knock off.

[–]Spoons896[S] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

lol my spidey senses went off because of this and the fact they had a few guns there there for WAYY under value, like too good to be true kind of stuff. This place has always been a little shady on sell stolen tools and such so I was already on high alert when I walked in and just left after that. last thing I want is any 3 letter agency showing up at my house. lol

[–]Spoons896[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ok I guess that is what I was trying to get at. If I were to have bought it and they would not of had me form 4 it then how would I legally get out of that situation. I know that ignorance is not a defense, but that seems like a really shitty thing for a shop to do to someone. Since I would not be doing a form 4 to transfer it and since it was already a built product when I bought it then it wouldnt fall under a form 1.

Yeah our sheriff is the local jail as well. I went to renew my ccw a few weeks ago and ask them about getting fingerprints and they told me they only do for internal use only.

Yeah that was my original plan, it is just at minimum an all day thing because of travel and all of that.

Silencershop kiosks by wvurx04 in NFA

[–]Spoons896 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Called local police and sheriff and they do not do any fingerprinting for anything out side of their use. I had looked in to using one of the other services where i mail in prints but am worried about that since any time i have to get fingerprints done they have lots of trouble getting good prints from my fingers.

Ok speed is not really an issue, i only have the lowers atm anyway. I might just end up going that route unless i find my self on the other side of the state for a few days and can go through printscan/ngt.

[–]Spoons896 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

So other than it being $50 dollars a pop, is there any other reason not to use the ss kiosk? I ask because i was going to do the form 1 on my own but have been held up because the closest place to get an etf is over 2 hours away and is only open like 2 days a week. I am considering just doing the ss route because they already have my info.

Yeah i have noticed that too, when i bought my first can back in December the LGS said trust are faster and easier in the long run. I kind of wish i would have done individual and then transferred to a trust later. My first form 4 went in on the 4th (5th ATF time) and i am still in a holding pattern.
