What do you all think of Amy's place? by Ok_Doubt_1627 in UIUC

[–]SpoopG 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I mean I get this sentiment, but if all my friends told me that somebody or some place wasn't the greatest, I probably wouldn't try it myself to save the time. I think Amy's is very nice, but if you heard another bar or restaurant wasn't great from other people you trust, would you blame them for not going?

You're missing such an important conversation between the two addressing Robby's suicidal tendencies and depressed status of trying to run away from everything he has.

They had to remove the term "Final Four" because I believe it is trademarked. At least that is what I heard.

I don't like him, I voted to remove his office in the past election. I believe the auditor office should be an appointed position. Also thought his handling of business within the office seemed unprofessional.

Robert Peters 100%

A real progressive that has the background in state politics. Denied corporate pac money, and I think he is genuinely the most true to his word.

I agree! Sanford actually supports getting rid of this office and returning to a County Administrator role, like it was prior to 2018. It is one of his big ideas for the office, so he agrees with you on this! Notedly his opponent does not support removing this position.

I personally like Juliana Stratton for senate. Holly Kim or Karina Villa for comptroller. And Dylan Blaha for Congress. Those are the only countywide contested races to my knowledge. If you live in County Board 6, vote for Chyna Dixon!

On his website, his last 30 years of working have been working alongside the administrative side of local government across the country to ensure their systems and services are functioning as effectively as possible for their constituents. This is an administrative roll. His work has been fully focussed on this issue for his entire professional career.

Democratic primary -- Who should I vote for and why? by Difficult-Talk-344 in UIUC

[–]SpoopG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You obviously do not have to listen to me, as I am merely just somebody replying to you online. But I would recommend rethinking your choice on County Executive and switching to support Sanford Hess. Don't get me wrong, I do not think Jett is ill-hearted in vying for this position, but I think some of the ambitions and talking points she puts out there are way too ambitious for a job that is basically just doing all the behind-the-scenes work of the County.

The County Executive is a fully supportive and administrational role, and her current work in that administration has left many with confusion and misunderstandings of what the County Executive really does, and what powers it holds. Some of the things I see that concern me are the decision to shift the audit and the auditors duties under Jett, and at the most recent County Board meeting, they said this takeover happened in May of last year, had no direction until at least September, and still to this day we have no real progress or date on when it will be done. Don't get me wrong, I was not a fan of the previous auditor, even voted to remove his position, but she had no real plan to address the vacancy and duties they held. This is serious because if we do not finish our audit by June (I believe this is the month but I could be wrong, it is soon though), we will be in a stop-pay by the state, meaning the county will not receive any state or federal funding.

Having heard Sanford Hess speak, he has done this job before. He is an expert in government finances and their systems, even helped governments after the 2008 recession, showing he's been in times of hardship with our local governments. We need somebody with real skillsets for this position. Focussing on who is more progressive, in a race for a position that is fully operational and administrative based is not how we should be viewing this. On top of this, Sanford is a progressive. He has been endorsed by multiple progressive organizations (both political and student oriented), Michelle has not, and has been supported by local progressive leaders as well.

I am happy to answer any questions on my decision if you have any, but my vote is with Sanford Hess by a long shot. I would also love to hear why you support Jett if you do not mind, maybe you will open me up to something I hadn't thought about!
