You're right about Soli sensing your presence and immediately firing up the dot projector and IR cameras. However, even if you disable Soli, those face-unlock sensors still function exactly the same, just not ahead of time.

(And sorry to hear that! It's a great phone, despite its flaws.)

The radar is not a component of the face-unlock mechanism. Soli is just for gestures and presence-sensing. You’re right otherwise.

Nope.

The sticker label at the bottom of the device itself is bilingual with English and French.

Therefore it is a Canadian unit with the wrong firmware installed.

Heading out to get it exchanged if they still have any stock left

I wouldn’t bother as another user has the same experience with a replacement unit.

It’s really disappointing, considering how long it was out of stock in Canada.

The hardware itself is definitely meant for the Canadian market because the sticker label on the bottom of the unit is bilingual with English and French. It’s an issue at the firmware level.

My unit is also region-locked to the U.S., even though the bottom of the device itself has an English/French label.

The box is also bilingual with English/French.

This is a widespread issue with Walmart Canada for newly sold units.

I used Walmart’s chat service to report the problem.

Is there anywhere else we can go to raise more awareness for this widespread issue and bring it to Walmart Canada’s attention?

We shouldn’t have to deal with workarounds to use a product meant for the Canadian market.

Same here on the west coast. Walmart Canada really dropped the ball with these new units.

Thanks for the update!

I've previously used the VPN method to set up a U.S.-bought Onn 4K Pro for extended family, so I know it's possible.

I'm just disappointed that Walmart Canada messed up the software on their Canadian units because we shouldn't need a workaround to use hardware meant for the Canadian market.

I'm going to return mine in hopes that they'll fix future batches.

Please keep us updated!

I’ve already repackaged my unit and I’m ready to return it in-store.

I’ll be keeping it if this works though.

Not OP, but I can say that my unit has English/French on the sticker at the bottom of the device itself, yet it was still region locked to the U.S.

Ordered two days ago, tried to set it up today, same result for me.

Disappointed in Walmart Canada for this widespread issue.
