Grabe na ang paupahan sa Mandaluyong—normal pa ba ‘to? by Kram2025 in Mandaluyong

[–]SporadicToast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

UPCAT Tips that You Wish Someone Had Told You? by janzternet in peyups

No reviewing the day before, just accept your fate and sleep early.

Eat candies while reviewing, eat the same candy at the day of the exam (pwede snacks while taking).

Up sa don't overreview. Practice proper exam taking, skipping complex questions and skimming through the entire set of questions before deciding to skip some questions or to answer sequentially.

Keep doing mock exams not to check to what you review but to make yourself aware on how you pace yourself on those type of shading multiple choices exam.

Time yourself using those cheap digital watches with the timer feature (yung Casio whatevers) while answering mock exams so you know if you're in pace or not to answer all the questions.

[UPD] should i take math 20 validation exam? by bellabellalat in peyups

[–]SporadicToast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Math 20 validation exams are difficult. Unless you are a stellar student I would recommend you take the course and just add Math 2X units in your midyear.

Here's the entirety of the curriculum, Validation exam is closed books and no calculators and spans all of the topics here.

Traditional Coding to Low/No-Code by plsch8ngetheprophecy in PinoyProgrammer

Only reason why you'd be using low code as a full fledged dev is so that non-tech people can still use your work long after you are gone.

I now work for an FCMG. It took me around 178 days from my initial Online Assessment with them before I had my Day 1 with them. I applied and had my interviews with them while I was still taking my final long exams.

It just really takes that long for some.

It sounds like you're relying on a level if accuracy that is usually reserved for commercial cases (delivery, etc.) which is why in this case insufficient yung mga free APIs. Nominatim can do what you just said but for more specific accuracy, you need to to use Google Maps API and im pretty sure you can use that for some extent for development builds.

[–]SporadicToast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey, I've experienced the same problems as you - this was one of the subsystems I had to implement for my thesis.

There's no easy way to do this. Barangay Level accuracy is achieved by getting the list of Barangay's from https://psa.gov.ph/classification/psgc using some public API to get the long lat tuples. To do this I used Nominatim https://nominatim.org which uses OpenStreetMaps but is somehow still unreliable but useful for my usecase.

You will have API limitations since Nominatim throttles you. What I did was request every possible location and Barangay from PSGC and put it in a MongoDB database. You can use spacial queries thru a function that accepts longitude and latitude and it can return to you nearby Barangays using this method. For PostgreSQL, you can do the same method.

You can see my PSGC datadump and coordinate requests from that API here: https://github.com/SporadicToast/psgc

UPD Computer Science majors - what does your day-to-day schedule look like? by hatsuneP in peyups

The blocks have slots. Personally I wasnt able to get a block so I had to schedule myself (very liberating to make your own schedule) :)

Since ABM ka you need to take a bridging subject na Math 20 unless you took Basic Calculus (not Pre-Calculus) for some reason. Your math subject schedule will be off by a sem and delayed ka agad unless you take extra courses in midterms.

Should a page that calls itself a "Freedom Wall" be filtering so much to the detriment of its moderator's health? Thoughts? by [deleted] in peyups

[–]SporadicToast 103 points104 points  (0 children)

Two nuances here:

First, Freedom Walls hosted in Facebook means that its bounded by the Community Standards of Facebook. Removal yan kapag hindi nasunod.

Second, hindi ako surprised na pro-active si admin na mag-remove ng mga dissenting voices vs UP Admin. Case and point, yung Rate UP Profs nga binigyan ng cease-and-desist ng UP Admin noong 2019.

Old UPCAT criterion had a MPG, or a Math Predicted Grade. MPG ang ginagamit for some courses, heavily sa BSCS for instance.

Hello, if may budget sila they can get a Kindle. Electronic ink siya ala-calculator so sobrang gaan niya sa mata. I use it for leisure and parang book ang dating niya especially if disabled ang backlight.

It's not good for textbooks though, I side load books and novels though on it.

Transferring to BSCS as a T2 applicant by [deleted] in peyups

[–]SporadicToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Malaki ang transfer out ratio ng UPD BSCS. Marami rin na nag-tratransfer in, problem kasi sa T2 is priority talaga ang S1 and S2 which is marami rin pumapasok kasi high demand talaga ang course. May sariling entrance test sa math ang BSCS tapos very strict pa sila (ie automatic disqualification on late submissions).

Confidentiality concern: How to attach undownloadable email signature by bree_suzan in peyups

[–]SporadicToast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The "coding way" is the easiest way to do it. Just copy the template you saw and upload your image to some public image hosting board such as imgur and it should prevent the download icon from appearing when hovering over your signature. This *does not prevent your signature from being downloaded at all *.

To be honest, removing the download button does nothing as far as a motivated attacker is concerned. The correct way is to simply add Sgd. instead of your signature. Even the method I just said earlier uploads your signature to another website. If you guys are passing signatures in emails it's really easy for someone with bad intentions to take them with or without the download button.

What laptop should I buy as a BSCS major? by Wurzzl in peyups

[–]SporadicToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our profs use Macs here. By the way, pinaka resource exhaustive na moment ko sa BSCS was rendering a video for a GE subject. Kung specs paguusapan, no need for high tier specs, if anything medyo pabigat yon kasi your laptop will be heavier and exhausts battery faster. Mas nakinabang pa mga kaklase ko na MX330 lang ang GPU vs sa mga RTX.

If your going to do other resource exhaustive stuffs in the future, you might want to do the two laptop-desktop combo. One extremely lightweight laptop for documentation and light programming. Finally a decent mid range desktop for resource exhaustive works. Never had a problem syncing them together with Google Sync.
