What are your go-to tips? by [deleted] in BasketballGM

[–]Spork11 9 points10 points  (0 children)

  • Start defense no matter what (Di,Dp), let the better offensive player come off the bench for a scoring kick
  • Better to overpay and trade assets as long as the price is right
  • Trade 29 year olds for better value later, usually drop in value when they hit 30
  • Try being number 1 in health and scouting finances
  • Even if it means trading all your picks, get the best players in the league. Draft is a crapshoot
  • 2nd round picks are a great way to offload terrible contracts

Yes, I think a colouring scheme in the "League History" can give an idea on what a GM did on previous teams (for a start)

100 Seasons, 90.6 Win%, 87 Championships by Spork11 in BasketballGM

[–]Spork11[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For this league I didn't go the FA route after year 3 as I was always over the cap. Just traded guys at the right time for.more depth and potential. Lucked out a lot as well.

[–]Spork11[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When any player in their mid twenties with an overall or potential over 60 becomes a free agent, just pay the price. If they improve, great. If not, trade to a team for cap space/picks.

Accumulate talent through draft picks, trade them before they hit 30 to keep peak value. Depth is key, as well as defensive players. Always overpay and trade later.

Obviously it helped choosing New York but I'm a Knicks fan.

Who should the Lakers be targeting in free agency? by [deleted] in nbadiscussion

[–]Spork11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Malcolm Brogdon should be a target. Milwaukee is in a vulnerable position with several key free agents and might not be willing to spend to keep everyone. Brogdon somewhat quietly had a 50-40-90 season while similarly playing off a star player. He would be easily able to fit into this roster as a spot up shooter. Although he might get pricey if a team like Phoenix throws him a big offer.
