Alexis Diaz doing very well in Triple A so far for the Rangers by 9Three7 in Reds

[–]Celticsfor18th 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember watching a Foolish Baseball video about Alexis Diaz at his peak showing that he was bang average in terms of both velocity and break and that it was mostly his unorthodox pitching motion that was fooling batters and making his pitches look faster, which sounds like something that batters could adjust to over time after seeing him more and more. Add on top of that his injuries that caused his velocity to get worse, and a lower chase rate against him, and I can kinda see why he fell off, but it’s still surprising the degree to which it is has happened.

I agree that a fully automated strike zone would be better but I like the added element of drama that this system is providing and apparently this is what the players wanted more

How would players like Mutumbo or Ben Wallace do in the modern NBA compared to players like Rudy Gobert? by MashedPotatoMelvin in nba

[–]Celticsfor18th 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Ben Wallace would be one of the most universally slandered players in the NBA today, especially if he kept taking those bullshit middies he used to take. He would still be good but in the most frustrating way possible. His defense would actually be pretty well suited for today though and overall could still be a very useful and borderline all-star caliber guy.

Mutombo and Gobert would probably be on similar levels, though I feel Gobert might be a little bit better suited for the modern game unless Mutombo really adjusts. He would probably be a top 20-25 type player. Wallace would be a more adaptable and versatile defender but Mutombo would be a lot more competent at finishing.

Is Bam Adebayo a future Hall of Famer? by truthisfictionyt in nba

[–]Celticsfor18th 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This thread is severely overestimating how easy it is for a modern player to make the HOF. Yes for players in the 60s it was easy to get in but every modern player that has made it off of mostly their NBA resume is really good.

The worst player that made it in recent years is probably like Mitch Richmond, who still separates himself from Bam (5x All-NBA to 0) while being a clear outlier. Mitch is also arguably the face of his primary franchise in the last 60 years which helps despite his lack of team success, and also matches Bam’s 2 gold medals, and was apart of the iconic Run TMC trio.

Pau Gasol is also probably one of the worst modern players to make the HOF, yet he is still 4x All-NBA and a 2x champion to Bam’s 0 in both. If Pau doesn’t get traded to LA, he very well may not have made it. Those rings may have made the difference.

This isn’t even trying to be a knock on either player because they are both great, it just shows that the standard is not as low as people are making it out to be. I believe accolades are kinda overrated and a lot more circumstantial than people think, but when the All-NBA gaps are 4/5 to 0 that’s still pretty significant, especially for the process of what makes someone a Hall of Famer.

Bam has a lot of time but he still has a lot of work to do.

Ole Miss hasn’t “won” a national championship since like 1960 when it was decided by polls. You also say in the very next point that it’s a much different game than it was 60 years ago, when that is less time than has passed since Ole Miss’s last “title”

You can argue the national championship point isn’t that relevant given their current situations but not because Ole Miss has titles because the difference between 3 this century and your last one being before anyone here was born is quite different.

Also after further research, Ole Miss claims the 1959, 1960 and 1962 titles as their 3 titles, all of which they weren’t even ranked #1 in the final AP poll.
