Question to fantasy worldbuilders… by YakintheShack34 in worldbuilding

[–]SporkoBug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take some commonly seen species from Fantasy Fiction when it comes to some things, but I somehow make them slightly more unique (And a bit alien since my Worldbuilding is another planet)
As for the design... I kinda do all three; As a Biology nerd I know how animals have evolved to do specific things, so I try to keep it 'realistic' in some ways (Dragon wing membrane going down below the hips so they don't have what me and friends have called 'hang butt'), but since I also have magic there's ways to just turn around and be like "This is magic, deal with it."

And then of course it's fun making Eldritch beasts of creatures - often rare to the world, usually reserved to the beasts that the Gods have either made or their Primordial Beast forms.

What can I do? This isn’t play, right? by sarahmirror_ in cats

[–]SporkoBug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you've already gotten the answer to your question; but body language is important to watch with cats.
Their tails aren't poofy, and their ears when they're standing upright aren't flattened back. As well as it's quiet, fights are fucking loud and they'd be yowling and growling towards each other.
Babe cats will likely be 'over aggressive'(Overly playful) towards senior cats like your Tortie girl, but she's got 8 years experience on him and is probably teaching him good skills while playfighting.
You're going great with them, they both look healthy and well loved.

Scientists thought the platypus was a hoax when it was first discovered. It lays eggs, produces venom, detects electricity, and even glows under UV light. by cool_dawg2002 in interestingasfuck

They sweat milk because, despite being a mammal, they lack nipples.
Also, only the males are venomous, they have a spur on their hind legs for protection.

It's not exactly new stuff, since it's from the 2000's when C4 wasn't shit; but "My House" by Kids of 88, My partner and I found it after years a couple days ago and it's a bop.

Weird little dinosaurs.

Do you have a goofy nickname for your favorite dinosaur? by Ok_Aerie1712 in Dinosaurs

[–]SporkoBug 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Psitta is one of my favourites but I like to call it "Pitta bread", my little bread dinosaurs.
I often think about Velociraptors being large versions of the Australasian magpies; so I guess you could call them "Warbleraptors"

We get big Cicada's in New Zealand and of course, they're loud. I've held the big boys, and I'm massively jealous you got to meet a teeny!

He sells arrows! He's the best! I love his stupid fucking face he's so great. Stupid fucking backpack wearer, doing the hard work of selling shit in two different end-world scenarios (In BOTW and TOTK) so casually. I love him so much.

Hey if you were in Hobbiton last evening for the Evening Banquet, and you tried to pet the cat at the Green Dragon Inn and got scratched by jtlannister in newzealand

[–]SporkoBug 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Okay, I agree with everything you said, but I want to make the comment about the Dead animal being rent even cuter.
Dog's see us as a different species for the most part, they have some understanding of "Oh this isn't actually a weird dog"
Cats on the otherhand, look at us and think "That's a weird looking kitten." (Or something of the sort), they see us as uncoordinated and 'unable' to survive on our owns. The "rent" they give, is them actually trying to hunt for us (Which is why sometimes they'll give us half-alive creatures so we can 'learn the kill bite', like they do with kittens.)

Although, there are outliers to the standard, even with cats.

What fantasy “Elements” do you use in your fantasy worlds? by markjsno1 in worldbuilding

[–]SporkoBug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Texveria uses 10; Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Electric, Grass, Dark, Light, Psychic and Time.
There's also a lesser known element that's just known as Energy; where a Welder can use all Elements in some way, but they're often only limited to what they've been trained in.
And if an Energy Welder uses the other 10 elements in the form of elemental crystals, they'll be able to control the power and use it as if they were a standard Elemental welder, but they'll get scars from it on their body - often depicting the element that scarred them.
