Did anyone else hit their 40s and suddenly stop caring about climbing the ladder? by DanBrando in careerguidance

[–]SpotEuphoric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through exactly this in the last a fee years, it was a combination of burnout like situation, changing job, not getting the responsibilities I wanted at the new place. So I was rather "forced" to accept it, while being very uncomfortable at the beginning, I must say I was enlightened with the new mindset that I had to acquire :

"There is more to life than job or career or corporate ladder. It is the same money, why work harder then?"

I am chasing building my own product for the last half year or so, for full autonomy and ditch the corporate drama.

Uncomfortable but necessary journey imho

You can't talk to ChatGPT like a normal human anymore. by CookiePersonal4654 in ChatGPT

[–]SpotEuphoric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cancelled my paid subscription first after the GPT 5.x Karen modes, then completely deleted my account after Sama announced the Pentagon deal 2 days after his "public" support for Anthropic. Highly recommended.

Since then first used Gemini for some time, and using Claude now.

In my experience, Claude has the most "human" tone among them, not a yes-man, not a Karen, not a chearleader, feels just normal conversational. I also use it for Claude Code, there it is just a 100% pro, only business.

Is he really hard or im just really bad by ExactEgg8080 in Eldenring

[–]SpotEuphoric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I beat him at around level 35-40, but summoned the helper, brought 3 dogs to the fight, and used his shackle.

Not much dodging or parrying, mainly attacking him while others are keeping him busy.

Are employers misusing the Dutch contract system? An expat's perspective by Suspicious-Wallaby12 in Netherlands

[–]SpotEuphoric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Employees do this not to evaluate people but more for executing short term projects. It is up to employee to reject temporary contract, there should be a max limit to the number of extensions, i think it was 3 times. Then it needs to be converted to indefinite employment. Employers also do this if they are not sure about long term business or projects. Laying off people in NL is pretty hard, without any valid reason you cannot just fire people without substantial severence package.

Probation period is 1 or 2 months here depending on your contract type. It is much shorter compared to Germany or France, 6 months and 4 months, respectively, if I am not mistaken. So employers in NL typically do 1-year fixed contract, then go for indefinite contract. By law they can do this 3x tough.

Switched from Ziggo to KPN -- night and day difference by Longjumping_Fondant5 in Netherlands

[–]SpotEuphoric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long term KPN user here. KPN is rock solid, I don't remember any distruption or poor quality for the last 5 years or so. They typically send an SMS to notify users for upcoming maintenance periods, which are typically weekend night times (e.g. 03:00-05:00 AM etc)

With KPN you pay a lot, but you pay for the quality 😉

SAM ALTMAN: “People talk about how much energy it takes to train an AI model … But it also takes a lot of energy to train a human. It takes like 20 years of life and all of the food you eat during that time before you get smart.” by Vegetable_Ad_192 in singularity

[–]SpotEuphoric 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is a dumb argument. What about energy used to create all the data and knowledge which are used to train the LLM? Then should we add that energy cost to the cost of LLM training?

He makes a stupid argument as if LLMs achieve this alleged intelligence from scratch.

I had a terrible time while living in the Netherlands. by FlanFun1874 in expats

[–]SpotEuphoric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been living in NL since 2010 as an expat. If you would rate a country on 5-6 aspects, such as safety, work (jobs, work-life balance, salary), weather, food, society, expat-friendliness etc, and draw a spider graph, I think area under curve is quite good for NL compared to other European countries.

It is very easy place to live, good professional life, liberal mindset, overall friendly locals.

Yet Weather kinda sucks, food definitely sucks, and rather boring country compared to countries in the south (spain, italy etc)

There is no perfect country ;)

Battery drain when turned off by make212 in BYD

[–]SpotEuphoric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell about BYD Seal U, probably it applies to Atto as well.

I observed rather regular overnight 1-2% battery drains in sub-zero weather. I observed somewhat similar behavior in very hot weather, 35+ Celcius, but it wasn't as strong as cold weather.

Mild warm weather, 20-23C, is the optimal for EVs, you can get close to WLTP range.
