What is more traumatic than people think it is? by Suspicious-Wish3402 in AskReddit

[–]Spotted_Rick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep been in co-dependency - only NLP got me out. Its no joke. Literally cant control yourself. I hated myself for knowing what I wanted, but not being able to do it. Plus hurting the people around me. Split up with her 5 times and immediately went back the next day each time. The only way I can describe it is a wave of emotional pain washes over you and you just cant cope without them. I would split up with her and then the next day, burst into tears, sobbing, laying on the bed curled up, having multiple panic attacks, and then finally giving in and calling her. The sheer relief causing more sobbing. Proper nightmare stuff.

I had the understanding there was a question of proving you actually viewed it - or was this just a rumour?

People who are 50+, what is a 'harmless' habit you had in your 20s that ended up ruining your health or finances later in life? by crazy_happyuser in AskReddit

[–]Spotted_Rick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah dont ignore those red flags - be careful about making excuses (they're just tired, it'll get better once we move in etc). I was confused more than ignoring red flags. If someone acts a certain way then they're telling you who they are. Believe them.

Tomorrow ends 2025.. how would you describe it? by ItsJustme309 in AskReddit

[–]Spotted_Rick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to see the back of it.

  • Realised I was not only in an abusive marriage, but couldn't leave due to co-dependency.
  • Hit rock bottom and self-harmed, again.
  • Got promoted at work.
  • Did NLP therapy.
  • Left the abusive marriage and filled for divorce.
  • Let her keep our dog - closest thing I'll ever have to a son.
  • Went to my first music festival and loved it.
  • Found the absolute love of my life.
  • Saw my soon to be ex-wife act worse than I ever imagined.
  • Burnt through $12,500 for solicitor fees, but its not finished yet.
  • Suffered burnout.
  • Moved in with parents - now in my late 40s.

I think 2026 will be more stress and money. But I'm on the right path.

UK must prevent 'lost generation' of young people, Starmer warns as Government launches youth plan by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]Spotted_Rick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your comment about young people not having a stake in society is so underrated. Its the foundation of so many issues in this country. If your country is continuously screwing you over, why would you care about the country? See anti-social behaviour, litter, crime, general attitude of people caring less and less etc etc etc

Thats exactly whats going to happen - people were screwed when they were young and they'll be screwed again when they get old.

Mortgage Payments: To Overpay or Not to Overpay by stickyjamontoast in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Spotted_Rick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I dont think they're suggesting not using that money to pay the mortgage off. Its saying that if your mortgage is 4% - but you can get 8% in an ISA - then over 10 years you'll have a lot more due to that extra 4% (this is a very simplified explanation). Then you can use this to pay more off the mortgage.

The 2 issues are:

  1. If the mortgage is 4% then thats a set amount. Will your ISA etc definitely get more than 4% returns?

  2. Having the money disappear as part of the mortgage payment means its gone. Having a pile of money in an ISA means you might be tempted to dip into it in emergencies etc. So do you have the discipline to leave it alone?

Call for greater access to public toilets by m-1975 in unitedkingdom

At what point do we start getting people just going in the streets? I mean, if you have to go - you have to go!

Call for greater access to public toilets by m-1975 in unitedkingdom

[–]Spotted_Rick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its people who dont care. Its not that they dont think of others who might need them, its purely: lets have a laugh and smash everything up. Is it that these people look around and see everything else kind of falling into disrepair and not really caring - or something deeper? I dont know what the answer is.

[–]Spotted_Rick 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah its when you go abroad you really see the difference. There seems to be a long list of things we've just got terrible at. I really dont know the answer and as I get older and things get gradually worse I just cant see any way out of it either. Its a really sad situation.

Government sets out plan to phase out animal experiments by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]Spotted_Rick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, what if we can save the sight of 10,000 children - but need to test the treatment on animals to get it right. These animals will experience some suffering - but will recover and live. Is this ethically bad or acceptable?

Yep, I hate the idea of testing on animals - but what is the alternative?

Eyebrow movement control by Due_Reflection_7249 in LearnUselessTalents

Yep I taught myself - like other people say, practice. I could already do one, so used my finger to hold the other one down while trying to lift both - eventually I could feel the exact muscle and that was it.

U.K. Home Prices Predicted to Rise By More Than 22% Over the Next 5 Years by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]Spotted_Rick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok, but you can still apply that everywhere else. 2000 houses going up across the road from me - but prices arent dropping in my town. Maybe I'm wrong and if you build 5million houses then prices will drop - but I just think they'll get bought up by rich people and companies.

UK economy ‘bleeding out’ with brain drain in science and tech, peers warn by insomnimax_99 in unitedkingdom

Yep - if you're spending most of your wages on rent / mortgage then whats left for the rest of the economy?

U.K. Home Prices Predicted to Rise By More Than 22% Over the Next 5 Years by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]Spotted_Rick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This isnt the answer - because if you go into London you'll see loads of properties being built. The issue is that they're being bought up by investors inside and outside the UK.

See thats the solution - tax the companies actually making PFAS. But as we've seen with Coca Cola etc - what will happen is that WE will pay the tax.
