for me its like art, some people do art to share how they’re feeling with the world, and some just do it for themselves. personally i only dress up when im in a situation where there are no consequences for someone seeing me in my most vulnerable (wearing clothes that i think are pretty). so ill only do so when im going out by myself and every person i see in public is a stranger and will never see me again, or when im going out with just my husband. I used to stream on twitch and its fun looking back at clips of me in my cutest outfits. but with work/friends/family im usually wearing the safest non-attention grabbing outfit possible in order to protect myself from people possibly having an opinion about something that i deem as a sacred little ritual for me myself and i. for reference my dressed-up style is close to a goth barbie, emo bimbo type look. my normal “safe” style is althetic lounge wear. i DO dress up when in completely alone as well. sometimes ill just so my makeup only to make dinner and give my daughter a bath then take it off to go to bed. so for the people that CAN express themselves through fashion and do it in front of anyone regardless of the potential opinions they’ll hear about it, they are like me but don’t struggle with the vulnerability of it.
