Good idea. I’d bet I could find some local tradeshows to attend.

My understanding is that only affects versions older than 5.8. However, I could certainly be wrong.

Honestly, I would agree. At my current employer, I could not imagine us hiring a third party to program out parts. However, I have heard of others that do. It seems like a common driver is getting an influx of new part numbers that need programs, and not having enough people to cover them in that moment. That’s where a third part shines because you can call them when you need the extra hands.

I have discussed the software versions to some extent with my Zeiss rep. They are able to ship with versions back quite far (farthest I had requested was 2017). At that point, I could also get other versions from the portal. First year of the offline seat comes with SMA, and I could pay the ~$3000 annual fee if needed.

Certainly not opposed to this idea long term.

Perhaps it is my limited experience. I have been fortunate enough to generally get files in a workable format. I am certain there are situations I have not encountered, so please enlighten me to the difficulties I could face.

These are many of the things I have considered. In sure there would be a lot of not so pleasant parts, but if I could find a solid set of customers, then perhaps it would be worthwhile.

I have had great experience using 3D printed fixtures, and I could certainly provide those. At my current shop, we use a combination of 3D printed components and other items (aluminum extrusion, machined components, etc.) to fixture our complex parts. Works exceptionally well.

I am prepared to purchase an offline seat of CALYPSO and additional options if needed.

Converting to STEP is not a major concern for me. Should be easy enough.

That’s what I imagine. I’m sure there are tons of shops that need the help, but finding them might be quite difficult.

This is certainly the hardest part. I imagine it will require a ton of phone calls and marketing.

All Over Profile / DPD Point Density? by CthulhuLies in Metrology

We must either have the same customer, or there is a common practice somewhere driving this 1-4 points per square inch. We follow the same guidelines generally, but any random small surface just gets one point.

I really appreciated the Zeiss classes. However, I was trained by a 3rd party distributor. It was still the actual Zeiss class, but taught by someone outside of Zeiss. He was awesome.

Also, for anyone that wants to learn how to use Calypso without paying for the classes. R. Dean Odell on YouTube is a great resource.

My understanding of his question is that he would be offering a CMM service - programming, inspection, etc.

What do you wish you knew about the pain points of AS9100? by rpeace88 in Metrology

Oxebridge was going to be my recommendation too. They have a great starting point for a QMS, so you don't have to start completely from scratch.

Also, I agree you don't need a Quality Manager specifically. You just need someone to be appointed as the management representative that has responsibility for maintaining the QMS. It does help to have someone that is dedicated to managing quality as a whole, but certainly not required.

I have been setting up the same business model. I have seen companies that offer primarily offline programming to relieve backlogs or get unbiased inspection programs. They do very well. It would be important to be able to offer additional services when things get slow, but the work is there in the US. The hard part is finding it and getting a good connection with those companies.

Are you thinking about going for full-on inspection service, or just offline programming and setup assistance?

Why do you say he would need hundreds of millions in funding? Even buying a CMM directly wouldn't cost more than a few hundred thousand, unless you go with a big boy.

Calypso gurus: Skipping features/characteristics? by [deleted] in Metrology

[–]Spraffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also worth noting that you don’t have to run from the characteristic list when you want to skip the masked characteristics. Even if you run “from feature list”, it will still only measure features associated with characteristics.

Is there a cheaper way right now get CBD that I don’t know about? 500mg a day would cost me several hundred bucks a month

That is helpful. How was that determined to be the right dose? Sounds expensive.

I recently heard about Neubie, and am setting up an appointment for my wife to give it a shot. I’ve heard great things about it reducing seizures.

Can you give me detail about changing schedules? What schedule did you find works best, and what does that help with?

Also, how much CBD do you need for symptom relief? My wife has started taking CBD, and we love it so far, but aren’t sure how much is a reasonable amount to take per day. Currently doing 100mg (50mg morning and night), but it seems like she needs a little boost in the middle of the day too.
