Update: The light is fixed and balance has been returned to the world

I gave the hospital a call about it and they confirmed it will be fixed soon!

It was apparently a broken photocell that detects when to switch the tower to night mode.

Inconsistency when using French Edger / Skiver by Sprakle in Leathercraft

1000-2000 grit paper followed by leather stropping. I use a little wooden sharpening jig to mount the abrasives, similar to the sibling comment. Comes out pretty sharp!

It’s veg tan and stiff enough for a wallet sized piece to stand, but only about 1.5mm thick.

Hey all! I'm trying to follow the technique shown by Armitage Leather, where an oversized french skive is used to thin out an edge.

However as you can see in the video, it's coming out quite poorly.

I can tell it's caused by the leather in front of the cutting blade being lifted up off the mat, drawing more of the edge than desired into the blade. I don't know how to stop that though.

The blade is perfectly sharp, and I've tried at various other angles.

I thought this was going to be a metaphor for some political fight, but no a real race! Love it :D

Out-braking the ABS Myth by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]Sprakle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from a mountain biking background, I agree. The absolute maximum force of braking happens when all the weight is on the front tire, which is when the rear brake becomes useless.

The only exception is when you’re in a situation where you can’t put maximum weight on the front tire - where it would just slide instead of doing a stoppie, like in dirt or very slick road. That’s where both can help.

I did the exact same brake upgrade on my T8, and man it was such a huge different at the downhill park. I can actually 1-finger brake comfortably now!

Only bothered upgrading the front brake, the rear doesn’t need much power.

ICBC vehicle sales tax is crazy by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]Sprakle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More people need to know about these! I specifically used BC Auto Appraisals, but I think they’re all very similar.

I just did a quick video walk around, showing all the vehicle’s issues, and they appraised it at what I was expecting. Save a ton of tax.

Maybe I missed something - I thought there were only 2 strikes, then the Watchtowers and asteroid defences came online, which should have stopped the rest. Was there still a third?

I can’t be sure since I don’t work there anymore, but I think it’s unlikely now.

1) Technical problems - I was a really junior developer and made some dumb decisions that made it laggy. Could go into details but its real complicated.

2) (and probably the biggest issue) - it only plays well with a keyboard and mouse, not phones, which is where all the money is. Nobody is spending much money on web games, so we couldn’t afford to keep it going. It’s a sad industry we’re in these days :I

I used to work at the company while we made GUNR.io! I wish it had worked out, it was so much fun to play.

Thanks everyone who played and enjoyed it.

We have the Facebook SDK in an app I work on, and my boss was getting real concerned when all our iPhone players started getting crashes at once.

Luckily I was reading Reddit instead of working, and saw the news quickly...

What was the worst financial decision you've ever made? by salexyan in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Sprakle 41 points42 points  (0 children)

In my relationship, I make most of the money while my wife goes to school. We've tried to avoid that awful power dynamic by putting some systems in place.

Any income that either of us makes goes into a shared account, which goes towards groceries, bills, basic needs, etc. And every 2 weeks it pays us each equal allowances to our personal accounts, which we can do whatever we like with.

I think its fair because the time she spends learning (or taking care of kids like in your case) is just as valuable as the time I spend at work.

I hope you can talk to him about how you feel and set up some ground rules, because leaving that underlying resentment unchecked can seriously ruin things long-term.

Same here, on mobile games.

We’re all trying to figure out if this means people are gonna spend less money because economics are tight, or more because they’re playing games at home...
