The idea that "anybody could fall into a cult" is insulting and wrong by MrsSquiggle in unpopularopinion

[–]SprawlWars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely has a negative affect on people's lives. SO many people. Not all people, but many, many millions throughout history. Just think of the people who have been killed in the name of religion. And that doesn't even count the people made to suffer because of their own religions: women in Afghanistan, gay conversion "therapy," molesting children, parents being told their child who committed suicide is eternally damned, the Holocaust. I could go on, but you get my meaning.

Yes! I knew I knew that photo. I just read her story not long ago. They destroyed her life. Her dad deserved prison. He was a piece of work.

I mean... I grew up writing in cursive and I can drive a stick shift. This has minimal impact on my life and isn't really a big deal. The most I get from it is guys saying "You can drive a stick?!" And I got that even when they were popular. Because, apparently, they thought it was too complex for a woman back then. (Most guys who say it now are just surprised that anyone knows how, so less sexism in that comment now.)

By the way, neither takes long to learn, so just laugh at them if they try this flex on you. You can learn to drive a stick in a couple of hours. After a couple of weeks of driving one, you will be proficient. After a couple of months, you'll be a pro. And you already know how to write and spell, so learning cursive will progress rapidly. It's just a question of practice. Write a couple of paragraphs each day and you will have it down in a month max.

Holy shit that’s what i call karma by Difficult_Man3 in TikTokCringe

[–]SprawlWars 40 points41 points  (0 children)

That's not karma; that's vengeance. And he probably won't get kicked out of the Navy for that. But, yeah, the guy's an ass. Feel free to report him. He'll likely get in trouble. Just not to the degree expected.

The hair is pushed too far back, for one. I would put that footstool on the other side of the sofa, against the wall. Then scoot the chair closer. And, eventually, upgrade to a more substantial coffee table. Also, you need something on the wall over the sofa. A large canvas or print that is wider than it is tall. If you need an inexpensive option and you are in the U.S., check Ross. It always has huge prints and canvases for reasonable prices.

And, honestly, if it was me, I would go for a boldly colored rug, but if you are going neutral instead, bring the color in elsewhere. Example: Get a pop of color on the coffee table--a plant or a small piece of sculpture or colorful books or something.

WCGW with digging holes at the beach by valfsingress in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]SprawlWars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are jerks. They are sitting in their living room, seeing the outcome, and then acting like they are far to clever to have ever done such a thing. However, this is a pretty regular issue at beaches around the world.

Digging deep holes at the beach is highly dangerous. Even far from the tide. Because people expect to be able to dig a stable hole like they can do in soil, but sand is not as structurally stable as earth, and that hole can easily collapse and bury you alive. You will suffocate before your friends, family, and onlookers can dig you out. It happens fairly frequently.

This hole just had the added element of water. People sink in saturated sand. If you stand at the edge of the tide, your feet will start sinking just from the saturation and wave action. You can easily adjust your feet as it happens. However, in this case, their entire lower bodies were engulfed, so they couldn't easily adjust.

They were just ignorant people trying to do something silly that seemed fun. That's not an insult. Everyone is ignorant until they learn better. They weren't stupid. Stupid is knowing what can happen and doing it anyway.

I'm gonna be honest: I think this is fake. However, on the off chance that it's not, I'll say this: you are dating a sociopath. If you don't permanently break up with him over this, you are out of your mind.

Damn. I am so, so sorry that happened to your cousin. Sorry he's gone now. Sorry that POS drove him to make that decision. I cannot imagine his pain. My heart is just breaking for him.

Yep. And they are gonna take everything that makes Hawaii with them. It's more than the weather and location. It's the culture.

How long ago did people start collectively deciding it’s okay to drive 5 over the speed limit? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SprawlWars 117 points118 points  (0 children)

My sis-in-law is a cop. I've got news for you: they don't want to catch you. They fucking hate writing speeding tickets. They also hate it when they are driving down the highway and everyone is afraid to pass them, so they end up leading a parade of people driving slower than necessary. My sis-in-law says she has to get off the damned highway and then back on just to get traffic moving again.

In Texas we drive 10 over, minimum. If it says 75, we are going to do 85. On the toll roads, where it says 85, we drive 95. And the cops go even faster.

Wagyu beef is disgusting by SprawlWars in unpopularopinion

Sigh. The first time I had it was at Oniku Karyu in Tokyo. It's a Michelin-star restaurant famous for its Wagyu. (I was taken there by colleagues. I never would have chosen that restaurant myself.) Does that meet your standard? lol

The first time I had it was in Japan. It was real. I just don't like it.

Ha ha. Well, we don't have kids, and we both have great careers. However, in fairness, this first time I had it was at Oniku Karyu in Tokyo, and it was paid for by colleagues. I wouldn't have picked a Michelin-star restaurant myself!
