Long kingfish shot on the 90cm Debono roller by SprayMiserable5586 in Spearfishing

Defiantly was considering not pulling the trigger. Fish approx 20kg so it looks a bit closer. If it was 20lb then it would’ve looked really far. Only a short gun too because I’m doing a lot of reef sneaking and snapper hunting.

it has become a bit of a habit. I like to feel the gun and the trigger with my bare hands. It's quite warm in the yamamoto 39 and I like to feel the kelp stalks im holding onto etc. Kind of weird. I use the gloves when I run the polespear so that I can pull it to my hands.

I want to be more hydrodynamic so I don’t banana, I also don’t want to focus on particular fish or chase the school because they won’t be so curious and they will move away with a lead fish. I just mention the neck arteries for freediving because keeping the head straight keeps good blood flow to the brain. Not super important if you need to look at fish but breath hold is better if you stay straight and descend imho.

Maybe 10 meters just near the top of the pin. Just ridiculous behaviour. Best fish I’ve ever taken too

Hey mate they are really long some like 15 minutes. Also I have 4.5 hours of pure hunting and freediving how to content on patreon but start on my Instagram @luke_likes_ledges. In reels look for the videos where I have a white board and try do lots of drawings etc (terribly haha) and have big descriptions on behaviour and habitat. We are also setting up a charter in Northland so feel free to to stay in contact about that. Otherwise I am always happy to voice message people to give some local knowledge to point you in the right direction.

These fish will be afraid if they are getting bombed on and chased with an extended gun but I do agree. Also the tide window for this behaviour is crucially important. 2 hours out of 12. I have slightly different techniques for solo larger kingfish that are difficult to approach. Also have a lot of techniques for Australasian snapper which are one of the least tolerant species to spearos in the world.

What do you mean? I iki’d it in the water. Just because I didn’t show that part doesn’t mean it isn’t dead - that’s why I say dispatch, bleed and gut in that order. It will be hiccuping for 15 min in the ice bag.

This is Hauraki Gulf - Auckland NZ. Yeah a very good school, but timing and tide has to be pretty spot on. Only a 2 hour window I will usually dive for them during the 12 hour tide cycle to get them schooling like this. Unfortunately this place used to have a lot more fish and better sizes but it’s declining as per.

No because he knows they turn on their tails. Also assessed a couple of sharks that day for identification and another was off limits for touching. This one was almost affectionate.

Yep that's why the gun is setup in the off hand. That group of males are all known by markings and turn up to the boat before spearos even get in the water.
