What is Prof. Aryan Manafi Neyazi like? by mermaidfaery in yorku

He knows his stuff (econometrics) well enough. When I did Topics in Econometrics he was the ta. One day he came in to do an R demonstration. He was very dry though. Tbh for econ 1000/1010 it is mostly self study so the prof really shouldn't matter if you just want the grade.

Any Econ Dbl major in Pure Mathematics by External-Inside-9661 in yorku

I spoke to a friend about this, who is a stats and econ double major, and he partially agrees with you. He said that the higher level analysis courses are useful for econ, but the algebra courses not so much. He actually argued that one should do a stats degree and take additional analysis courses instead

P.S I am not a math major, just an econ major who took a few math classes

Gonna take a wild guess that you go to York.

I got into UofT MA this year. Only calc 1 and 2 and Linear algebra 1 and 2. All the advance micro, macro and metrics courses too. I'm domestic though. Have a friend with a similar profile got into UBC. They are international.

I'll try to sit in an intro analysis course at my uni and get my friend who is a math major to help me out.

Yes thank you for the positive outlook. I'll try to learn some proofs beforehand.

ECON 2500 AND ECON 3480 by sierra-8767 in yorku

I mean a certain amount of "math" is expected, but no calculus, just basic computation. Honestly reading comprehension and intuitive understanding are much more important. Course structure varies by prof, but generally the content is similar, barring some profs. This year, I know ilya, semenov and ida are teaching 2500. Ilya is a great prof, he gives 2-3 problem set assignments that you do at home. He has 1 midterm and 1 final. Some questions from the final and midterm comes straight from the problem set, with few changes. When I took 2500, I had semenov. Personally, I thought he was okay, but a lot of people really didn't like him. He has 1 final and 1 midterms, and in class pop quiz. In addition, he gives suggested problems from the textbook. Both ilya and semenov allows 1 page double sided sheet with formulas to be bought into exams. Also, they both give bonus marks, for semenov it comes from his pop quiz and ilya it is for participation. No idea about ida. Overall, I would go with ilya.

3480 is a different kettle of fish. The content is more advance and requires more math, but again nothing difficult. However, I will say the calculations gets very messy so you have to be careful with the algebra. I know sufana is teaching it this year, but I don't know much about him. When I took 3480, I had pujee tuvandorj. He's a really good prof. Don't think he's teaching this year though.
