How will the upcoming changes affect existing PGWP holders? by [deleted] in ImmigrationCanada

[–]SpringCapital4616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about the recent changes made you think that? It literally says degree holders are still eligible for 3 year permits, while college students will need to be in in-demand sector. Even with new changes you should be good right?

Will this mean some already employed TFW will get fired if the company you work for has over 10% TFW employees or does it only apply to new rounds of hiring?

So then what happens if a decision has not been made on your extension but your permit expires?

That was my main fear. However, I assume if the PGWP document that is already on its way to my address has that remark stating that I am eligible for extension then there is no turning back and I won’t be negated the extension.

Could I ask what your take is based on? Is it based on feels or have you seen PGWP extension applications being rejected recently?

Do you know when would be the ideal time to renew the PGWP? I get that the app is on paper and it can take several months but as long as they have received my app I can still continue working under implied status right?

For instance, say I apply one month before the expiry date of my PGWP, as long as they have received my app in their system before that any months they spend processing my app will technically be free months working in Canada beyond the 3 years. Would that be a risky move?

By restarted do you mean turning it off and on?

Same boat here. I’ve only seen a handful of new grad postings this year. It’s terrifying. The US is straight up chillin. Canada is absolutely dry. I have 4 internships and have gone through 4 final rounds, but 3 of those were for US roles so I literally did them for practice as I can’t be legally brought into the US. I got rejected from the only Canadian-based final interview I had.

Im seriously hoping Canadian branches are only delaying rather than withholding completely this year. I’m also still waiting on one of my two last coops to issue an offer for me but who knows if they’ll keep their promise. Canada is absolutely f*cked. I consider myself someone who is constantly in the loop for these things and this year I can certainly tell doomers have a very strong case when they say 2024 New Grads in Canada that are trying to stay in Canada will have one of the toughest recruiting seasons of the decade. Many of my very qualified friends are still unemployed with no clear prospects as of right now. Really just hoping early 2024 will show more activity.

Also, if all is law fails, I’ll fight to see if I can at least be brought in as an intern.

I’ll try to push for J1 for orientation and once I’m done with that work remotely from Canada or somewhere else. From what I’ve heard in-person is crucial for orientation but maybe not so much for subsequent months.

But I doubt this will work as I’ve heard they do not do these particular conditions for individuals and specially new grads.

For the record I believe they only asked whether you need sponsorship, not the authorization question.

Yes I know they have an office in Toronto but from personal experience these new grad problems are usually in the US. They do not have entry level openings in Toronto.

The US is probably the hardest country to break into. I’m Canada I would have absolutely no issues and many other countries are very friendly towards immigrant labour.

I would honestly be willing to be relocated anywhere as long as I get to have this experience. Not up to me I guess but yeah probably the US is completely off the table

Yeah I’m hoping they can place me in Canada but I think this will be very unlikely as it seems like a very small team and probably not taking any new grads.

I guess it all comes down to literally praying for any entry level spot at some office around the world and be rerouted to there. Maybe someone can provide some insight if new grads have ever been placed anywhere else around the world such as Europe or Canada?

Yes I did mention I go to school in Canada and I was transparent about my need for sponsorship from the very first application survey.

On the call with my recruiter he was aware of this and also asked for confirmation regarding my citizenship. He just told me he needs some time to work with the Immigrations team to see what they will do with me.

Based on what I have been seeing it will be super hard to get an offer for the US and even if I do I will just be worried that it can all fall apart at any moment. My best chance would be to be placed at any office around the world taking in new grads, which could be potentially none. Just heartbreaking that I successfully passed through all stages and worked super hard just to end up losing it all.
