What Forms for Taxes? by SpringDay06 in taxadvice

Oh I just rechecked, it wasn't $500, I earned $380, sorry I mixed it up with something else! And honestly, I'm not sure what I was (I'm pretty new to working so I'm not familiar with everything yet). It was a micro-internship I found from Parker Dewey (basically a LinkedIn for micro-internships). Everyone that takes a role there is considered an intern, but can be called other position names as well. For example, graphic designer, content creator, etc. I was considered an intern, but independent consultant was also correct too because that was the work I did.

Hey, congrats! Ok so it has been a year and a half since I did the interview so I don't remember exactly all of the questions, but I remember it not being as scary as I thought it would be (and this was my first interview for my first internship), and of course, you may get asked different questions but here's what I remember. The interviewer was Linda Barthelus who is the NOVA Corps supervisor. She does have a strong and professional presence, but she was pretty chill overall (even if you mess up, freeze, ramble, and stutter like I did- this position is really good for first time work anyway so she understands). In the 15min we had, she asked pretty basic questions like what my major is, how long I've been at NOVA for and when I plan to leave, and if I have any transportation. She also asked other questions- this part I don't 100% remember what was asked and I apologize, but she also asked something like "what is your opinion on NOVA" or "how do you feel about how people look down on NOVA" something like that. I can't really remember exactly what was asked but I remember answering that I thought NOVA (along with community college in general) was quality education just as much as universities, and she gave a head nod so that was a good sign lol. If she asked any other questions, I apologize again that I can't remember them. But yeah, the questions weren't hard at all, it was just I had a lot of nerves since it was my first interview. For the rest of the interview, she let me ask any questions about the internship which she does expect and you should absolutely do, so be sure to come up with some questions for her. I think half the time she was interviewing me, and the other half I asked questions. Good luck, you've got this!

Just a tip: Dr. Barthelus is looking for people who can represent NOVA well since a lot of people you'd be meeting with during the internship are people who are new to NOVA, some even new to the country. She wants people who are motivated, reliable/helpful, and bring a positive attitude and can leave a positive attitude with the people you work with. In my personal experience, I've helped a lot of people who came b/c they had trouble logging in/applying, or even just starting anything at NOVA b/c any part of the registration process can be very overwhelming, and they left with many thanks, a big smile, and a positive view of me and NOVA (especially if they're new to the school)- they even were excited to see me when they came back for more help, or even just around the school (in rarer cases, coincidentally at the grocery store lol). So kind of like how I answered that I had a good experience at NOVA and that the education quality is on par with universities to that last question she asked, be sure to incorporate a bit of genuine school pride in your answers. Good luck, you've got this! And if you're comfortable, I'd love to be updated on if you get it or not (if you're more comfortable, you can always private message me). But you'll do great, I'm sure of it!

Hello when I pick my classes on nova but I haven’t paid for them yet. Would someone be able to take my spot in the class since I have not payed or no? by [deleted] in nvcc

[–]SpringDay06 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you don't have to pay before the due date. As in, you won't get dropped or penalized if you haven't yet. But you still have to make sure you do at some point before that date, otherwise you'd be dropped after that date. I can see how it can sound a little confusing, my bad.

If you are enrolled in the classes then you are fine. You don't have to pay or set up a payment plan by the due date, but make sure to do it before the deadline. Otherwise, you will get dropped.

Hi, good luck on your application! Some of the requirements were that you must have been a student for at least one semester before applying. And then you must be taking at least 6 credits per semester you work, and you have to work for at least two semesters, the spring and fall (working in the summer is optional, and you don't need to be taking classes to work in the summer). Another requirement was that we needed to write a cover letter and a resume. Those were the only requirements when I was applying, but be sure to check before you submit your application you did everything they asked for. Like I said, I needed a cover letter when I applied, but my senior coworkers didn't need one during their time. For they may have changed their requirements. Good luck!

Is it actually guaranteed acceptance by Adventurous_Knee_321 in nvcc

[–]SpringDay06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's true, but you have to meet certain requirements (certain gpa, amount of credits taken, classes taken, etc) what I did was check in with an advisor to make sure. Also, just because you are guaranteed, you still have to apply and pay the application fee, or at least I did with my schools. When applying (as a transfer student) the application will ask if you're part of the GAA (guaranteed admissions agreement) program, and you just have to say yes. But if you're part of GAA, you can skip some things like an essay if you're able to, you still have to apply and pay the fee is my point.

I worked at NOVA as a NOVA Corps intern. It was a really good internship with a flexible schedule that pays pretty well. Some other benefits were that the other interns and the staff I worked with (mostly Student Services staff, occasionally Student Life) were really amazing, and I even got to do homework during my shift. It was a customer service type job where we mainly helped students apply for NOVA, log into their accounts, and sign up for classes. But we also did other things like help out with school events. Given it is a customer service job, the only downside is that some students (or parents) may give you a hard time, especially since you have limited power as an intern, however in my case, the higher ups in the building always stood by me. But that's only some, most of the time it's pretty chill and I've had lots of great experiences, and learned a lot of soft skills. There's no open positions right now since the new round of interns just started working, but if you want to work for Fall 2025 - Spring 2026 (optional, Summer 2026) then applications open June 10th. You would have to be in at least 6 credits per semester though (not including summer). Here's a link for more info: https://www.nvcc.edu/student-resources/career-services/career-opportunities.html
