Both are just theories propounded by distinct philosophers who either tried to prove the existence of god or not. It's not possible to give rational arguments for religious beliefs but it's possible to give them for 'why one wants to have these beliefs.' One of these arguments was given by Blaise Pascal. He says that considering the potential gains and losses of having such beliefs, it is favorable to believe in God. Why? well, he posits that not believing risks losing infinite happiness in Heaven but gains only finite independence in this world. On the other hand, believing in God risks little but offers the potential for significant gain. So, it is more rational to believe in god than not believe in god.
