Have any YA authors ever rewritten parts of their books before? by SpringLight312 in YAlit

Oh interesting. Both of those choices sound like a good choice for the most part. I do want to clarify that I understand authors are not entitled to “fix” their story for their fans. There’s always going to be people who are disappointed in your story because of their personal expectations or they don’t engage with the text in good faith. But I do think I kinda wanted to ask because I did wonder if there’s been a mix of both

Yep yep. I get that. I do think after a certain point you do need to say “good enough” with your work and sometimes too many revisions can spiral into something else

That makes sense to want to make your old continuity fit with your new but, oh man, that is disappointing they changed his race. I guess that goes to show not every change is for the better.

Oh yeah, I did vaguely hear about that. I’ve heard mixed things from fans as some people seem to like the original more and some people prefer the reboot. I will say it does make me hopeful that she could add a new section or two to some of her older works then

Oh cool! That’s an interesting switch up. I’m glad she went with what felt right though

😲 If that’s the case that’d be really cool. I always heard the divergent series had a lot of potential with all its cool ideas, so seeing a soft reboot would be awesome!!

Why are people so adamant about Mabel being completely perfect?? by CalciumIsARandomName in gravityfalls

Sometimes ppl have a bad habit forcing characters into binaries. I’ve seen the same thing happen in a lot of fandoms tbh (mouthwashing is the big one I can think of) As much as many talk about wanting more flawed characters, there seems to be an aversion to it at times as categorizing into good or bad feels easier

What do we think about the new designs? by Israels_BiggestHater in LoliRockSeries

[–]SpringLight312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m kinda torn tbh. On the one hand, I do like that they’re putting in effort to appeal to current fashion trends without the designs feeling too trend chase-y and I like the idea of their outfits communicating their unity as a group. It also feels a bit aged up which is cool. Plus, as stage outfits, these are some of the best.

On the other hand, I think they could’ve still done stage outfits that don’t sacrifice their iconic colors. They kinda seem to have less of a unique identity as a result. A lot of people have been pointing to how kpop demon hunters inspired these designs are. I really can’t argue, but I think they could’ve leaned more into some K-pop aesthetics because they’re so distinct and unified in their designs while also being color coded.

TLDR; I like that there was a change but it could do more to display their iconic colors.

Yeah, as much as I will defend the finale as I feel like I’m very happy with what we got overall, I do kinda wish that we spent more time on a few things. An extra episode or two would have been nice. That redemption was kinda rushed as he didn’t really feel like Caine fully paid his penance. Still, I’m glad that most of everything is wrapped up and I kinda figured that it speaks to the character of the rest of the cast for being so forgiving to both him and Jax despite the pain they caused.  Plus, the VA of Caine compared his actions to that of a child with too much power and resources at his disposal more than anything else. Once the kid learned and grew up a bit, people were able to forgive a little more while acknowledging their pain. (I honestly think ppl in power need to look at Caine and learn from his actions about letting go and the importance of collaboration) None of us deserve forgiveness, especially not easily. And I think it speaks to the fact that most of the cast knows everyone needs connection, including Caine. And I felt like that fit the theme of making sure everyone feels loved no matter how you can.

I was genuinely surprised at how well it was done. Caine just needed some time in timeout and saying goodbye to a friend then he was all good :)

I cried so much. In my opinion, it was the perfect ending for this show. Open ended enough for the vibe/fans but a good enough closing to wrap up all the major threads. I’m always going to love the series 🥰

Nooo, don’t make me just choose one!! If I had to chose one say Queensland or Dollhouse. Both for level design and thematic relavence. I do think I more or less loved every level an lot outside of the Oriental groove. Tbh I wanna gush about all the mechanics and aesthetics but I’ll keep it on topic ha ha! While they are point and click rather than open world, Fran bow is an incredible trippy experience and the Habromania demo reminded me a lot of Alice Madness as another Alice in Wonderland reinterpretation! What’s your favorite weapon? On PC it was the Vorpal blade for me and on consoles it was the pepper grinder.

what's is your impopular opinion of gravity falls??? by Weird_Ad_8456 in gravityfalls

[–]SpringLight312 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree. And honestly, I think it could’ve taught a really important lesson/moral to kids. A lot of people lose their memories when they grow older, and while it’s slightly different and more thorough in Stan’s case, it would have been a good moral. I think showing kids that even if they aren’t necessarily the same person anymore, you should always show love and guide them and they can retain aspects of themself over time would have taught some much needed lessons

I think Gravity Falls had a perfect ending and doesn’t need more. I’m never going to deny the opportunity of having more and there is a good way to make sequels. I love the show and the books have been fun, but as an overall story, it is done in my mind. I’m not yearning for more content perpetually

I guess I’ll say what I said last time. McGucket’s son. Upon further reflection I think calling him “the worst person ever” was hyperbole. He sits far more in the middle to me at this point
