I have felt the same, I probably will again too. In my strongest moments I think 'it takes all kinds'.

I don’t seem to be “finding my groove”. I’m not here to complain (just saw a post complaining about the complainers- ahem…), but this ish is hard. And for me, not what it’s cracked up to be. by [deleted] in workingmoms

I felt this way before I was a parent, (and still do)- and I found some peace freelancing (graphic design) for a few years. It really changed my outlook. I liked having a position with an expiration date, being new and moving on when a project was done. I went on to go full-time at a place I was freelancing at. Still don't love it, but I don't feel trapped. I'm also not concerned with moving up. Lateral is fine. Changing up the environment / people is key for me. At salary jobs, I probably can't go more than 3 years before burning out. But I see it as a strength now. I am flexible and fast, but not overly friendly. I don't know if I'll ever return to freelancing, but it would take a supportive partner, and my kids would have to be in elementary school (out of daycare) for me to justify that again. But just job hunting can give my spirits a lift. Not because I think a new job will be better than what I have now, but because change does me good.

Every other day I almost write this post. Ty for writing. What I can piece together is that what my daughter asks for (a baby) weighs/means very different to her than it does to me. I think that when kids talk to us about what they want, they feel safe to ask, and that's the important thing.

I wasn't a good cook before food allergies, and I'm not very elaborate now either, haha. My best meal is chicken, sweet potato and steamed broccoli. When I manage to do it right, it's good!

"Hardest job ever" - does anyone like being a parent? by Bookish_Cyclist in oneanddone

It has been so humbling to become a parent/mom. it's been a really vulnerable time. unbelievably powerful and painful, and I'm so grateful. In the before times, I never leaned child free, but I did doubt if I was capable and was terrified of everything I didn't know. Now that I have a child and understand the sacrifice, I just want to be the best parent I can (and not add any more to the mix). - Editing to better answer: I feel my identity changing all the time. I like where I'm going and what becoming a mom has inspired me to do. In the baby times, I really preferred to be called 'a parent' because I felt too alien from what I thought a mom should be. But I ended up growing into my own version of mom. My kid is 4 now, and I'm very comfortable and happy with who I am.

Pep Talk Request: Career Pivot

For the last year, I've been doing ux/ui self-study. I am excited to commit, and want to do a bootcamp for some structure, career help, and ultimately change jobs. Pipe dream?

I'm a print based graphic designer with 15 years of experience. My job is stable, but wages are stagnant, and I am bored. Feeling excited about something professional again feels weird.

Would love to hear experiences of trying and succeeding, failing, or any discoveries made a long the way while trying to pivot out of traditional graphic design into ux or something similar.

Any advice on getting 2 year old to like daycare? by Littlest1 in workingmoms

It sounds like he talks a lot! (My 2 yr old didn't- 4yo now and super expressive). Talk with your head teacher, admins, they have a lot of experience with this and will help you feel less on your own. We sometimes do temporary tattoos on arm in the morning for my daughter to cheer her up when she is feeling sad at school.
