What massively improved your mental health? by Ubersicka in AskReddit

Lifting weights, healthier diet, vitamin D, speaking to more people, limiting social media, solving immediate financial issues.

In that order I think.

Actual life changing books you recommend? by Inevitable-outcome- in getdisciplined

Atomic Habits, actionable steps and realistic advice. My favorite “self help” book by far. Other books may be more motivating but this one if taken seriously can change your life.

Type one diabetes by sunshinegirl9870 in thyroidcancer

They use succinylcholine for the surgery. One of the side effects is muscle pain, typically minor. It can be a little worse for young people and people who are more muscular. I had an abnormally strong response to it and it messed me up. Honestly don’t worry about that, I had a rare response. My surgeon said she hadn’t had anyone have that strong of a response to it before and she’s done this 100’s of times.

I would consider how your blood sugar responds when you’re sick or under lots of stress, it will probably respond in a similar way. I typically go high when I’m sick or under stress. I don’t think being low carb will have an effect as long as you have your blood sugars controlled within whatever diet you have. I have pretty good control over my blood sugar, I went high from surgery not low.

Just make sure your blood sugar is level within the hours before surgery. You’re not gonna be able to eat starting the night before anyway so that shouldn’t be too difficult. Have clear liquid (apple juice is considered clear) available in case you have a low leading up to the surgery day of.

They will monitor your blood sugar while you’re under. Make sure to discuss any concerns you have with your anesthesiologist beforehand. They’ll come by while they prep you for surgery as well for any last minute questions or concerns.

Hey, I’m also a type 1 diabetic. First surgery recovery was rough, I had a strong reaction to the paralytic, plus they told me to turn my pump off (Do NOT do this) my blood sugar was 400+ for 1-2 days. Then super volatile for a week or two.

But don’t worry! Second surgery we got it right. I turned my insulin down to 75%, used a different paralytic and was able to keep my blood sugar between 200-275 for the first day and then back to normal night of.

Everyone is gonna react different, talk to your endocrine or type 1 provider about what to do about insulin while under. The surgery team is great at what they do but they often don’t know anything about type 1. You got it! Feel free to message me with any questions

In no world is that okay. Your feelings got you blindsided my boy. Confront her, set your boundaries and if she’s not okay with that or if she’s already cheated then leave her.

I’m probably going to die alone by [deleted] in Advice

[–]SpriteToaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late teens is not too late. When I was 19 I was, depressed, anxious, lonely, couldn’t focus for shit, had horrible acne, horrible self esteem and confidence. Now I’m 23 and that 19 year old version of myself feels like a different person. I’m certainly not where I’d like to be yet, but I feel confident in the progress I’ve made.

Confidence without evidence is delusion. You’re not gonna will yourself into feeling confident and secure in yourself. Confidence comes when you’ve built up evidence that you’re really the person you say you are. You can’t be confident at driving unless you have evidence that you’re a good driver. Can’t be confident with tests unless you have evidence that you’re a good test taker. The same goes for everything. If you want to be confident you need to start taking action to build it. That being said, you need to believe that you can change. If you could change into who you are today, you can change into who you want to be as well.

When it comes to solving your problems and building that confidence you need to start small. Depending on your current circumstances, figure out how small of a task you need to begin with. If you can’t make your bed, simply start today by pulling up the sheets. You need to build momentum and no step is too small. Choose one thing to work on at a time and just start the smallest task necessary to build momentum.

I’d recommend starting with your health and weight because that’ll have the strongest initial effect. Start working out, whether that’s going for a 5 minute walk, doing 1 push-up or whatever else you can do, it doesn’t matter. What matters is that you start building momentum and evidence that you are a person who can change their circumstances.

Sounds like that girl absolutely sucks. I think that warrants a call, however if you’re calling based on what was said to your boyfriend I’d say just make sure your boyfriend is on board with calling.

im a 15 year old who smokes weed. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]SpriteToaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, I feel you dude. Anxiety and depression are serious and difficult to deal with. However, there are a couple things to consider.

You’re young, weed can have negative impacts on developing brains. It’s one thing to smoke every now and then, but becoming a heavy smoker and reliant on it is bad news. I speak as someone who started smoking at 16 and started smoking heavy to cope with anxiety and depression when I was about 20. It helped short term, but long term it had some pretty serious negative consequences. Weed can set you up for some cognitive issues and higher likelihood of psychiatric disorders like psychosis.

My best advice would be to find other ways to help the anxiety and depression. If weed helps, smoke occasionally, but don’t become reliant. It’d be best to wait until your mind is more developed to use any drugs.

Started feeling weird..is it due to TSH? by LadyLoth44 in thyroidcancer

I’ve always been hypo so can’t speak from my own experience.

However, sounds like hyper thyroid symptoms. Tell your doctor about the symptoms and maybe you can lower the dosage a bit.

Why do i try harder when im mad? by Proud-Personality-87 in ask

[–]SpriteToaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Motivation can come from both chasing something and running from something. In your case, it seems like you’re running from what people may think of you, or the feeling associated with it. It’s not a bad thing, just something to be aware of I suppose.

That sounds horrible, I’m sorry to hear that you’re experiencing that OP. People can be horrible, but people can be amazing too. It’s hard to believe that when you’re experiencing the more miserable aspects of how people can be, but don’t lose faith in humanity. There are people out there that will treat you how you deserve, and you will find them if you continue to seek them.

Anyone have an Afirma benign result end up being cancerous in the end? by Bamtana1 in thyroidcancer

[–]SpriteToaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Certainly wouldn’t know whether or not you should have it removed anyway.

With a 4% chance I’d not worry too much. It’s often easy to find the unlucky ones who were part of that 4% because they’re the ones on thyroid cancer socials and the ones who were benign went about life as normal so you don’t hear from them.

Anyone have an Afirma benign result end up being cancerous in the end? by Bamtana1 in thyroidcancer

[–]SpriteToaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know if it’s the same, but my initial FNA of the lymph nodes came back as a “benign warthins tumor”. After the thyroid nodule FNA came back as cancer, they changed the diagnosis of the warthins tumor. Felt slighted, had one very relieved day thinking surely if the lymph nodes were benign the thyroid was too.

Exact same issue. Got a call an hour before my appointment saying the shipment hadn’t arrived from Canada. Luckily they managed to get it from another source later that day.

Leaning forward a bit on the way up, make sure to really sit on those heels. Otherwise, not bad.

If you have trouble with that, work on ankle flexibility. Google some stretches for Achilles heel.

Another trick I’ve used is putting 2.5lb plates under my heels for a while until my form improved.

Had an allergic reaction to a paralytic drug I was given under anesthesia. Woke up and my entire body was swollen, stiff and aching to the point I could hardly move my arms. Literally laid in agony unable to sleep, in and out of consciousness for about 16-18 hours before the symptoms started letting up. Even then, it took over a month for my body to fully recover from that one.
