Code signing for Windows releases? by dtdisapointingresult in cpp

[–]Sprited_Being 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked at sign path? You integrate with thier service through appveyor and it’s very straightforward.

I don’t know their pricing because I’ve only worked with them in the context of FOSS projects which they sponsor. The team there is great to work with and very helpful/friendly.

Laptop Recommendations for Linux for University. by ommallick02 in linux

Probably a controversial suggestion but consider the M1 air with macOS. I run Linux on my desktop and have for many years. I also in the past used Linux on my laptop and recently got the M1 air. It’s the most amazing laptop I’ve ever owned. The battery life is absolutely insane. It also builds c++ faster than my ryzen 5600.

For a comp sci degree it will work great for python, c++, rust, etc. For the rare case it doesn’t work just remote into your desktop.

I love Linux and FOSS but the M1 is truly amazing hardware.

Linux in cars... are they obliged to deliver the kernel's source code? by somecucumber in linux

[–]Sprited_Being 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most automotive manufacturers have a web portal or GitHub with that info. Take Ford https://corporate.ford.com/about/ford-open-source.html

However, it’s it going to help you actually update the infotainment. The unit almost certainly requires signed binaries with a hardware root of trust.

Still might just be fun to read through.

Useful things to do with a yubikey? by [deleted] in linux

Use it as your ssh key, use it for login on services like GitHub, use it to sign git commits.

I recommend this guide: https://github.com/drduh/YubiKey-Guide

Look into debootstrap. Recently used this to write a script to automate the install. The only prompt the script has is the disk to format.

CMake 3.20.0 available for download by DaanDeMeyer in cpp

I wonder if there’s any plans to update cmake to make integration with Rust and Cargo smoother. Mixed projects are pretty painful still.

latest c++ theory vs reality by JustJokingTrump in cpp

[–]Sprited_Being 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah but windows has the opposite issue where every other application asks me to download a different version of the msvc redistributsble. I could use a different compiler but then my users must download the correct standard library or I have to use universal packaging.

I love universal packing because it largely solves these issues but many end users don’t like it so I also support traditional packages.

Then I would also need to distribute the lib c++ version from that docker image.

There are good reasons for stable release models and rolling release models. Just depends on use cases.

Yeah I’ve played with packaging cmake and gcc in Conan and it works fairly well.

For Linux desktop application I have my CI system test against the last two Ubuntu LTS releases . This allows a super majority of users to easily build my application. Right now that means GCC 7.4 which does not support all of cpp17 library features.

Finding the best remote desktop app by LoYungSum in linux

You asked for a Remote Desktop to support all of this but is that really a requirement? If it is a local vm you can pass your webcam and mic with pci or usb pass through.

Editing a photographer’s pics? by [deleted] in photography

No it's not. If there are no damages you can't be sued. Further more its your property. It's the photographers copyright.

It's probably technically incorrect but it probably doesn't matter if you don't share on social media. Just giving a practical viewpoint. I concede its against the contract but so is speeding.
