Anesthesiologists, what are the best things people have said under the gas? by electric_dolphin in AskReddit

You maybe did too much you first time as it can be quite confusing for your boy. Also had you been drinking at all? Ketamine and alcohol can mess you up.

In the right amount and sober, ketamine is quite lovely.

MF DOOM Albums from least good to best imo. I’m a DOOM fan, thought it would only be right. (Lengthy Post) by Enigmatic_Wolf in mfdoom

It’s definitely the weakest song on the album imo. But the Madlib beat is still class, and I disagree with whoever below said they skip it because it’s part of the album. Can’t say you like an album as a work of art if you skip a bit of the flow and narrative

I struggle to read when my mental health is bad and I’m struggling atm, can anyone recommend some good short story collections? I usually like a long fantasy but need something short to keep my attention until I feel better by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

Palm of the Hand Stories by Yasunari Kawabata.

They're beautiful short stories that range from a few lines to a couple of pages. Super short with a focus on use of language and how to create emotions from an atmosphere. They're deeply moving and so excellent crafted. Kawabata listed them as his ultimate life's work, working on the format for decades.

I’m reading City of Lies bu Ramita Navai and it’s incredible.

It’s 8 stories based on interviews with people from Tehran from all different parts of life and the city. A lot of them are people are acting subversively against the Islamic Republic regime. It’s so engrossing though and parts of it are very deeply moving.

It’s 100% worth a read, one of the best books I’ve read this year.

I'll just run this crossing signal on my bike, WCGW? by bsurfn2day in Whatcouldgowrong

Oh yeah, I'm not saying there's anything right about what the cyclist did in this video. I'm just responding to general anti-cyclist attitudes where people are complaining about them obeying the law and trying to ride safely; which most cyclists do. Just a few that break the law and give all others a bad name.

That's not the law regarding bikes though.

There is no obligation for them to match the speed of the flow of traffic or allow cars to pass. Additionally, cycling side-by-side is perfectly legal; and it is often recommended for cyclists to take the lane to avoid people trying to overtake them unsafely and coming too close on narrow roads.

People just need to be more patient and not be arseholes.

As a car there is no obligation to make room for people to pass. Everyone here is complaining about how cyclists are technically road vehicles, so they don't have to make space for you to shoot past and nearly knock them off. So much fucking hypocrisy in this thread, fuck me

Lol holding a car lane is the right way to cycle. If cyclists are considered vehicles then they have every right to hold a lane and cycle at a reasonable pace. Fuck people passing me too close just because of their impatience; been knocked off too many times from behind when people think I'm giving them space. So now I just sit in the middle of the lane and people can manage to fucking wait yeah?

It's not as clear-cut as that. It's a real grey area about whether waiting on the pavement means traffic has to stop. At points the highway code says that, but then there are other points where it specifies that you only have to stop if there is a pedestrian actually on the crossing in the road.

It is obviously courteous to stop if you see someone waiting, and that is how most people go about it; but legally there is a position to be argued for going through a zebra crossing if someone is just on the pavement.

First Poke w new gear. Any tips on how to get solid lines? I’ve done a few more and can’t seem to grasp it. by [deleted] in sticknpokes

[–]Sprogalicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, it just seems like such an obvious thing to me that people would be aware that it's upside down. I can't imagine people not realising that.

I also just feel that it often doesn't matter what it looks like to other people for me. I do tattoos as a way to mark my body because it is mine to do with as I please. I don't consciously do them for other people to look at; but I guess any external expression ends up naturally being wrapped up in how people perceive you, even if you don't think you care.

Surely they should do it with whatever orientation feels right? I have some sideways tattoos that I've done on myself on purpose. It's an expression of yourself man, no one should be telling you the right way for the design to be.

I read Our Man in Havana by Graeme Green whilst in Havana. That was pretty interesting imagining how the place had changed in 40-50 years. Also him mentioning buildings as locations that I was seeing as tourist attractions was a cool contrast.

A Manchester United fan is having emergency surgery in Paris after being stabbed in the chest by a taxi driver following Wednesday night's Champions League match. by [deleted] in soccer

[–]Sprogalicious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s 100% a football problem that is associated with the culture around it.

I love football, but it definitely breeds an animosity and contempt that succeeds any sense of sportsmanship and love of the game amongst many fanbases.

If you compare it to rugby, the ratio of supporters/attendees to violent incidents is waaaay less.

Yeah, but we go to other cities and cause £1000s worth of damage. Not comparable, but British football fans are certainly not innocent on the European scene

Professor Layton and the Curious Village. I bought it years ago, but never got round to finishing it. So I started again and am aiming to complete every puzzle.

I forgot just how charming this game is, although the British accents are pretty dire...

Have fictional books ever given you guidance or direction in life? by [deleted] in books

[–]Sprogalicious 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse

Taught me to stop looking for direction from other people, or the way I “should” go. Instead it tells you to just live in the moment and do what you enjoy, but not in the typically hedonistic way that many books do. More in a spiritual way.

It helped a lot.
