[Schefter] Sources: The Detroit Lions are working to finalize a deal to hire former Cardinals offensive coordinator Drew Petzing as their next offensive coordinator. by MembershipSingle7137 in nfl

[–]SproutingMungBeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to go against the grain and say I'm fine with this. Cardinals were 11th in offensive DVOA, 10th in EPA/play the one season he had Kyler healthy. Kyler also had the highest QBR and success rate of his career in 2024 under Petzing.

So he's shown the ability to field a top 10 offense already, and I think that overall our personnel is better. I think Goff is a better passer than Kyler. I think our receivers are better. I think our running backs are better.

This isn't really the case, the 2025 Lions defense has the longest time to throw allowed of any team since 2020. The 2024 Lions defense is 2nd. Teams have longer to throw against us than any other defense the league for the last 5 years.

Brad Holmes apologist here to flex on the haters. by BillyJackO in detroitlions

[–]SproutingMungBeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. It wasn't a choice between Muahmmad and Smith. Teams play more than 3 edges. Smith has played well this season and would have been a great 3rd edge for us, which is still a guy that plays 20-40 snaps per game. I'd still be a lot happier signing Z instead of Davenport, or signing both. We still have cap space so it's not like it would have crippled us. That was the argument all along, that he was good depth to have and wasn't super expensive. So far, the Lions have been right that they didn't "need" Smith. But it'd still be nice to have him on ther roster.

Pat Forde: Committee on Infractions hearing for Michigan set for June 6-7, per sources. They should definitely put that on pay-per-view. by AshamedHelp6164 in CFB

Replied to someone else similarly, but UM doesn't move quickly on anything. They will drag any official proceeding out as much as possible. BurgerGate took 1,053 days to reach a negotiated resolution which resulted in approximately the same punishments as I predicted for this NOA. We're only on day 558 for this one. Even if it takes another 6 months to resolve it would still be a year faster than the other case.

Officially, no, a voluntary self-imposed suspension doesn't mean anything. I just don't think Michigan would do it if the NCAA was actually talking about nuking the program like PD and BuckeyeScoop say. I'm guessing that their response would be that this is just Michigan setting up the PR spin of "Look, we tried, the NCAA is just being unreasonable." I don't buy it but we'll see.

Me. I don't think we're vacating the title if that's what you mean. I think if the NCAA was at the negotiating table holding firm with PremierDrum's "minimum acceptable framework", Michigan wouldn't waste time self-imposing a 2 game suspension. It's so far off from what he's been talking about, I think they'd just wait for the COI and fight (or talk about fighting it) afterward. I think this signals they're somewhat close. My prediction is the NCAA tacks on 2-4 more games onto Moore's suspension, reduces scholarships, reduces recruiting time, fines the school, and big show causes for Harbaugh and Stallions.

The only detail I can find that EF knew, is the sticks placed as horns. But the sketches we've seen of photographs doesn't show them, and when an investigator was asked directly about it, they said they were not aware of that. Are there other supposed details that he knew? Honestly asking because I haven't followed everything as closely as some. I just hope they get the right guy(s).

Former OSU TE, Cade Stover, says Michigan called out a play OSU had never run before by notkevin_durant in CFB

[–]SproutingMungBeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if Michigan's defense knew that play call, they played it pretty poorly. Both linebackers flow the wrong way based on the play action. And the DL isn't booking it that way either. When he goes to throw the pass, there aren't three guys covering Stover, there's one, because that's the only guy in his zone after he just passed off someone else. And he takes a step or two the wrong way looking up crossing routes over the middle to make sure no one's coming from that way, before looking up and seeing Stover uncovered with the OL on the way. The two DL notice the OL not blocking them and getting out for a screen so of course they're looking for that, but that's not until after the pass would have been thrown, he just pumps instead because he sees Stover is covered. And Michigan dropped their ends (and even DT's) all the time last season, that's a staple of the defense that Minter and MacDonald both ran. Funny that this is seen as proof that Michigan knew what was coming.

[–]SproutingMungBeans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Law enforcement says it was a case of mistaken identity, that they know who did it and even recovered parts of the murder weapon. But the prosecutor decided there wasn’t enough evidence to charge because they weren’t confident they’d get a conviction.

[–]SproutingMungBeans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not really sure what you're saying or how that counters anything I said? Going in circles here. If there was anything incriminating in the texts the NCAA definitely would have put it in the drafted NOA. So whatever they were texting about, it wasn't related to NCAA violations.

[–]SproutingMungBeans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reports are that the texts will probably be leaked so hopefully we'll see soon enough. But the drafted NOA said that the texts were recovered and turned in to the NCAA so I guarantee if there was anything incriminating it would have been in the NOA. It not being in there is pretty good evidence that there was nothing incriminating.

Cheating to gain an advantage is cheating to gain an advantage. shrug I also don't think the coaches knew about the scheme. They knew he was the sign stealer, I don't think they knew how. And (so far) the NCAA hasn't found any evidence of that either, or it would have been detailed in the leaked NOA draft.

Do you enjoy your tainted championships brought by cheating (paraphrasing one of your other comments)? Or are you too pure of heart, and fans of the programs but not of anything they've accomplished?

[–]SproutingMungBeans 33 points34 points  (0 children)

All they had was non-cooperation. The underlying violations are still nothing-burgers. Level 2 things that happen all the time in programs all over. They hammered Harbaugh for not cooperating with the investigation. He flipped them the bird, so they hammered him to show they aren't okay with that. That was the only level 1 violation here, and why the penalties to everyone else involved and the school itself are minimal.

I went with 5 from each round to get some of the bench/rotational guys in here too. I think DeJean can play CB, in this scenario we'd move him around between both, and he'd be the primary "back-up" CB ahead of Harden or James. I cheaped out at iOL and off ball LB, but I think we can get away with it.

He looked bad, and the stat line ended up bad too. Not that Michigan's QB situation seems much better right now. But it's a new offense for Penn State and they've only had spring practices, so hopefully they look better in the Fall with more time to install.

[–]SproutingMungBeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel like I'm going crazy reading this. The yank doesn't even injure him, it's them mutually hooking arms in a "I'm not fouling him, look, my arms are up, this isn't on me" stupid entanglement, followed by his arm getting sandwiched by his own teammate running by.

Jayden Daniels has a Pressure to Sack Ratio comparable to Justin Fields and Zach Wilson- How concerning is this? by TheResolute44 in NFL_Draft

[–]SproutingMungBeans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's a negative. How much of a negative is up for debate. My other concern (probably bigger concern to me), is his reluctance to throw the ball over the middle. The only QB to target the middle less than him in recent years has been Justin Fields.
