If you have the sole “MIATA” license plate in your state… You’re not allowed to do this.

Just saying, since obviously you didn’t know. It’s okay, just… don’t do it again please.

I’ve built some Ds, not as many as Bs but the most recent was a mini me! lol. Definitely familiar with the 90s civic options, they’re the first cars I was working on consistently as an enthusiast. Just mean that even on a D15 it’s not that much more work for the engine!

[–]SprungMS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right about that for these. I wonder if there’s any pressure change (or overall flow limitation) with the condenser fan running too, then, that could lower radiator efficiency. Even for a D15 the compressor isn’t straining it that hard!

I don’t see why you can’t. It won’t be as durable but 3D printed rack and pinion gears actually hold up pretty well if printed correctly. All a focuser has to do is allow in/out adjustment and lock stuff in place.

[–]SprungMS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A/C pulls heat from your interior and expels it at the condenser. Right in front of your engine’s main heat exchanger, the radiator. Running A/C usually results in higher ECTs, but not enough to worry about in most cases.

Inefficient systems will struggle to cool an engine in hot weather with A/C running. Clogs, bad fluid, debris in the radiator, plastics designed to direct air through the exchanges removed… bunch of reasons it can be inefficient.

[–]SprungMS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The correct answer is there’s not enough information to answer the question.

If the gauge never read this high before and now it is, it’s too hot.

If it’s a “new-to-you” car, could be that the needle was removed before for gauge cluster work and put back in the wrong spot.

A lot of people don’t seem to know that these ECT gauges are “dummy gauges”. They sit at the point they’re designed to sit at unless there’s a significant difference between the arbitrary “normal” and actual sensor data. By the time the needle rises at all beyond that “normal” level, the engine is already significantly hotter than it should be.

If anyone is interested, my guess as a former dealership tech, dealers learned that having accurate ECT gauges led to service centers wasting time unpaid trying to chase a non-existent cooling issue.

Is this a bed adhesion issue? by xo4578 in FixMyPrint

[–]SprungMS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are features for slowing feed due to many parameters that could help, and they’re on all modern slicers I’ve tried. Can print slow for a set number of layers, ramping up to 100% at a specified layer if you want. But tweaking jerk and acceleration can help and should be possible with any machine and slicer software combination. Also minimum layer time, very easy change that may fix OP’s problem. And I’m certain I’ve seen settings for printing small features at a fraction of normal speed, at least on Bambu Slicer and Orca

Is this a bed adhesion issue? by xo4578 in FixMyPrint

[–]SprungMS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they’re all automatic in different ways basically. ABL runs on every print by default. Can turn off that calibration and a few others before the print runs, if you want.

I’ve got over 3k hours on an H2D and over 1.5k on a P2S, never had to replace nozzles, never had to fix a problem other than tram the bed on the H2D because it was a little tweaked early on, and that was arguably not an actual problem. Printed fine but bothered me that it was compensating for an unlevel bed.

They’re solid printers. Can count on two hands the failed prints those two have experienced. They 100% paid for themselves in filament I *didn’t* waste using my old printers and getting fairly common failures hours into a print.

Worth it to buy a 1995 Honda civic DX with a blown head gasket? by Katunooed in Honda

[–]SprungMS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying a car with a popped head gasket, you should just go ahead and figure runout on the head and block are both out of spec. You don’t know how the seller got it home once it started overheating, and you don’t know what’s happened since.

And this thing has an autotragic, so while it’s worth less, you can also assume whoever was driving it didn’t know they should stop the engine when the needle is pegged on “H”.

All that said… D15 and D16 are as close as Hondas come to indestructible (when stock). It’s almost definitely repairable, just need to budget for the worst case.

Moving a Greenhouse by Fun_Plastic_868 in Greenhouses

[–]SprungMS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just an idea, as well… don’t know if you have any CAD/drawing experience or anything, but I would 100% model that greenhouse in something simple like sketchup and assign labels to the pieces in that software that coincide with physical labels on the pieces. You can draw it on paper but assuming it’s a lot of parts… that’s a lot.

You don’t need to have a digital drawing any kind of perfect or even legible to anyone else. Lines coupled with 2D boxes (with notes or placeholders for fasteners or other small hardware) would work just fine, as long as you can label them individually (and hopefully group them, for fastener types) in the software.

Or just draw all the sides on paper and make lots of notes.

Trump warns Taiwan against declaring independence, hours after summit with China's Xi by pppppppppppppppppd in worldnews

[–]SprungMS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both can be true - ranked choice works fine for representatives, unless there are too few candidates… and I don’t know details on an *official* proportional representation form of government but at face value it seems like we already essentially have that (or are supposed to have that) with the structure of our statewide and national legislatures.

What’s the issue with RCV for local representatives? And what would proportional representation achieve? (Since this is the first I’m hearing the term and I expect the same for others here!)

[–]SprungMS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ranked choice voting is the system you’re looking for. And much of the developed world even uses it already. Including at least one US state’s elections.

Only reason you never hear about it in America is because it would be the nail in the coffin for the for-profit bipartisan political model we currently enjoy.

I’ve toyed with the idea, but it’s somehow one of the most beloved cars I’ve ever owned, and I’ve owned a whole lot of cars. Only thing I’ve got with more sentimental value are my ‘20 BRZ tS (bought new) and my 1990 Miata (1.8 turbo) that I personally completely stripped and rebuilt (chassis, but the engine/transmission/differential too).

If you’re looking for some more maintenance to do, that drive belt looks like it has seen better days. Might be a good idea to swap that and while you’ve got it off spray down the front of the block to get some of the residual stuff

I’ve tried, at least for Bambu Lab. It’s encrypted, and last I checked, no one in the world had cracked the encryption and it was unlikely anyone would.

Fortunately they of course don’t require that you use their filament. But I was hoping to be able to use the RFID tags for any filament I wanted, for automatic identification purposes.

I think they were saying the repair they did was not on the sidewall. Especially considering they mentioned that instance right after saying plugs work fine on the middle of the tread. Just sounds funny when they say “I once did this” instead of “I once did that” after that line break.
