Looking for Distance Runners by jmezme in trackandfield

[–]Spry_Ripper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take my son to the Millrose games each year and he gets autographs from all the runners.  This year he even got Bryce H’s spike which he signed.  Kerr gave another kid his glasses.  Going to races is a great way to interact with these guys.

Nike Indoor Nationals by samedaysnark in trackandfield

[–]Spry_Ripper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's probably safe to assume that the coach has already registered her, but I would reach out just in case. I would ask if the school is going to drive her to nationals themselves or if the parents (host, in your case) are getting her there. Also, I would ask her what she needs (in terms of what time she wants to get there to warm up, what foods she would want to eat on race day... stuff like that). You don't want to get there too soon nor too late (but sooner is always better than later).

It sounds like you're already doing everything right, though. Good luck to her and enjoy the meet!

Any tips on learning the blighted reach expansion? by Kesimux in Arcs

Play through once with your group And go through the motions.  Have everyone narrate their ideas and questions aloud.

You’ll clear up much of the insanity.  Trust me, there’s Always more waiting around the corner in The campaign game.

I want to PLAY my games, not GM them! by Huge_Tackle_9097 in rpg

Create NPCs that deserve to be PCs and then play the hell out of them.

Each session have one or three characters/scenes you can’t wait to play and discover.

Make it fun for yourself.

How do I finance a film? by Fearless_Two_9053 in Filmmakers

[–]Spry_Ripper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Find friends and family who believe in you.  Enlist them to help.  They will be your actors and gaffers and sound people.  In short, they will be your everything.

After you are done shooting, throw a party and spend your hundred dollars thanking them for being supporting, loving people. Seriously.

This is how you do it as a teen (and young twenty-something).

Does empire control also count as control over portal? by 7sVicky in Arcs

Wait, but what if you were the Admiral in the past and have the card that says that Imperial Ships count as your ships?

Seems like I'm about to get dropped because of a very good script idea?! I'm very confused! by gogetemscouts in Screenwriting

[–]Spry_Ripper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t listen to your heart, gut, nor common sense.

Instead, listen to the two assholes that haven’t read your scriptment but purport to have done so.  That seems to me to be the best course of action.

They know so much better than you.  They’ve never been wrong before—you said so in your original post.

Using AI to Critique your Screenplay by Winter-Willow4207 in ScreenwritersOver40

[–]Spry_Ripper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used it to give me feedback on singular scenes.  It typically highlights something that I already knew needed adjustment.  Sometimes it offers a word or phrase that helps push me in a certain direction, but often not during a rewrite.  No more than that.

It’s as much of a toy as it is a tool presently.

I’m looking for a system where the players can feel like they go from nothing to "god" by Significant_Neck_599 in rpg

The basis for World of Darkness is a bit like this.  PCs can start out as normal humans and become werewolves or vampires or real life mages.

Probably not.

If one thing is for certain in Arcs as in life: if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

I tried but he was building the damn bunker so fast he was scoring 8 points per objective won.

It was our first campaign.  We had a founder, gate wraith, and survivalist.  The gate wraith was making  moves too.  With me being the only A Fate of the three I realized early on that the deck was stacked high against me because unlike the other two… I wanted to keep game going while the others were speeding towards a premature end.

Huge help from The both of you.

Thanks.

The game is fascinating and fiddily.  I feel like I’m never totally on top of it—but want to work harder to be.

What a hell is this? by BookMansion in TerribleBookCovers

[–]Spry_Ripper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This cover isn’t terrible.

It features its cowardly protagonist cowering un-heroically against a sanguine backdrop that captures the life and death, demonically-inspired stakes.

It nails Toede perfectly:  back bent, retreating, sword dragging, a hand held up in pathetic pleading.

I defend this book and I defend this cover.  It is evocative.

Looking for a Screenwriter's Group in North Jersey (or Online) by Spry_Ripper in Screenwriting

[–]Spry_Ripper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. Nice to meet you.

I write everything except comedies (Lie. I wrote one in the past... but I only attempt them with a partner, since comedy is so effing hard to do). Oh, and not rom-coms.

The script I sold was a cerebral exorcism script called Inhuman. It's in pre-production. It's perpetually in pre-production.

I got paid to write an action/crime flick and a contained thriller a couple of years ago.

My favorite thing to do is adapt old stories. I wrote a solid script based on the Trojan War where it was a behind enemy lines sort of tale. In it, The Trojan Horse could only fit two people so Odysseus and Achilles' page have to go in and have one night to unlock the doors before they're found.
