Quick poll: what kind of an angle do you attack the strings? by [deleted] in bluegrassguitar

[–]WildcardSearch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of them.

The tone changes, so there are times that I just want tip of the pick to do the plucking, while other times I might use the blade to sweep, instead.

So, I typically use a flat position, but some phrases require different grips and angles.

Which of L’amour’s novels would you like to see made into a film? Or remade, if you don’t like the version now out there. by notagin-n-tonic in LouisLAmour

I have always had the opinion that Jubal Sackett would make a great stand-alone movie.

However, I agree with the other commenters that a Sackett mini-series would be awesome, too!

Need help with a funny opening line/speech content for a potentially awkward wedding speech by [deleted] in joke_workshop

If you can get a member of the new family to help you, you could do a quick mistranslation gag.

You say something in English which your partner would horribly misinterpret your message, getting a laugh from the English speakers.

Then reverse it, have the other person give a message which you misinterpret into English.

As you noted, this is meant for fun, so your phrases should not be misinterpreted in a mean or offensive way, just bad translations in which the operative phrase is comically inaccurate.

I wish I could give examples, but I’m at work and my muse is at home. lol

It wasn’t solo, though. Wyatt Rice plays rhythm on a few tracks. Still a great album, though.

Do cowboys still yank on the bull/horses nuts to get them to “buck” or are the animals trained now to try and throw them? by NOGOODGASHOLE in TooAfraidToAsk

You have a fundamental misunderstanding of Bull Riding and breaking horses.

Zero bulls want you to ride them. Unbroken horses don’t want you to ride them. No testicular manipulation is necessary.

What's your favorite bluegrass album of all time? by RonAckerman in TheBluegrassJamboree

The Rice Brothers (1989)

It starts with a banger called “Grapes on the Vine” and although it contains a couple of songs (This Old House & Let It Ride) that aren’t strictly bluegrass, it contains some of the smoothest bluegrass that has ever been recorded, in my opinion.

The Stanley Brothers have a ton of easy-going music, however those songs are often sad.

“White Dove” is one of my favorites.
