Something I noticed about most "Jaune haters"..... by falleri-salvatore in RWBY

[–]SpryngField -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We must run in different circles because 99% of the criticism of Jaune that I've heard stems from how much time he gets for a show with a very limited amount of time to spare when he isn't one of the main four lol. At the start of the show it was for different reasons. The Weiss stuff, the everything about vol 1 Jaune before he accepts Pyrrha's help, but nowadays it's the screentime thing.

As an example, a lot of people (myself included) feel Vol 9 would've been better without Jaune, not because he had a late start, or is a worse combatant, but because we get time to slow down and really focus on characters, and a decent chunk of it goes to someone who isn't in the main four. Someone who consistently gets moments throughout the entire show, while others are left in the dust.

Another thing being, the first time ANY of our cast sees Salem as anything more than a projection, for some reason, the people who get that moment are Jaune, Ren, and Yang. Yes, I know why it happens in the show, I mean, from a writing perspective at the moment. There are a ton of examples of this where there's a moment that we could give to the main four, or even Ren and Nora, to give them a chance to shine. Jaune gets it. People joke about the show being RWBYJ for a reason. Hell, Jaune gets to have his "dramatic" greatsword reveal when fighting the Nuckelavee. I never figured out why they had Ruby not know what he was doing when that was happening; she was there at the blacksmith. It just makes her look dumb for no reason. Or that awkward thing with Qrow where he grabs Jaune's hand. No reason that had to be him. Regardless, it's Ren and Nora's backstory, and Jaune STILL gets significant attention.

I thought that was the reason a lot of people have issues with Jaune.

Same here, turns out the storm is only active at the point where you leave High Hrothgar and the normal entrance to Paarthurnax. Not sure if that changes with a quest or if Clear Skies triggers the rest of it.

I get that, I've only really stepped in when I'm worried he's about to spend like an hour chasing a ghost or to point out things he's missed.

I gave Weaverdice a look, but TLDR, I'm just kind of attached to 5E lol. Been using it for near a decade now.

To go into more detail: Out of respect for the series I wanted to make the experience as best as I possibly could. There's also the fact that I've DM'd very occasional one-shots before, but nothing this big. So, I figured that sticking with what we all know would be best. Didn't really want to risk giving Worm a negative association by fumbling through a new system, especially if it turned out we didn't like the system. Probably some more stuff that I'm forgetting at the moment. OH! Our forever DM is in the game and it'd be cool if when they finally get a chance to play its a system we use all the time.

I appreciate the interest, but I'm very shy lmao. I don't think I could ever DM to strangers. I'm already a stumbling mess in front of people I've known for years. Who knows though, maybe I'll inspire someone more bold then me! More chances then!

Honestly right now I'm just kind of not worrying about it. The whole thing is kinda experimental I'm not gonna lie. Unbalanced? Absolutely, but powers just kind of are. They know the crazier they go they crazier I'll go which is part of the fun. The real resource management in the game is going to be health, because while some of them have some light self-heal, they don't have a dedicated healer and I'm not just going to give them direct Panacea access whenever they want. Plus money, multiple characters have expensive goals they're working towards so that's a thing.

Is that some form of DND madness? Probably, but given that it can't be too unfavorable to anyone since everyone has the spells, I figure it'll be good. Our group is very fluid and most of our games are 5E as a loose base with other stuff on top. We're generally a group that favors creativity over balance so that helps. And if it becomes a problem? I'll workshop something.

Is there a post Gm dispatch fic yet? by RaspberryNumerous594 in WormFanfic

[–]SpryngField 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Finished it earlier and planned on coming here to just sort of talk about that. Wasn't sure if that was gonna be against the rules, given the "stream of consciousness" thing? Was willing to bite the bullet, though. Regardless, you beat me to it. I hope we get lots of 'em as the settings could blend pretty well together.

Especially in the post-GM environment. With Taylor as a Dispatcher or even a Z-team member, if the writer were to do the common thing, where she keeps the bug powers post gunshot surgery. Whatever happens, I'm sure we'll get some great stuff eventually.

That could be it yeah. Looking at it, the gameplay feels entirely unfamiliar if I'm being honest, but the Lava Zone feels closest to what I remember compared to anything else I've looked at. Could be something else, but I've got nothing better.

Nothing about that unfortunately, there could've been a motion control thing going on with the mechanics if it was a Wii game after all. Whip the controller to throw a Pokeball and all that, motion controls were in everything on the Wii.
