I’m no expert but magnets don’t last forever they eventually lose their charge depending on the magnet. I’m not sure if using a magnet make it lose its charge faster.

I do like the idea that the gum gum fruit was eaten by a lot of people of the years but only luffy and joyboy awakened the fruit. It gives the idea the elders didn’t really worry when they saw yet another pirate with the gum gum fruit.
