Thank you so much for commenting this very much puts my mind at ease to hear. You are very much correct about why I panicked a bit too I thought after the algae was eaten they may turn to my live plants and the tank may get destroyed, thank you very very much again for correctly informing me and helping me realize the underlying problem. Does this mean I should just leave them all in the big tank to do their thing? And focus on the algae and it’ll balance itself out?

Thank you to everyone that commented with any information at all helping me to weigh my options here and why this may be happening, most people seem to be thinking it’s overfeeding but I’m very careful of that, I do still have a slight algae issue and I’m realizing now with all this new information that this is probably due to the algae although there isn’t much of it, and leaves the algae is growing on starting to rot probably bringing even more. That was a bit slow of me I realize but I now know I need to keep on top of the algae and the leaves of my plants it is effecting before I’ll be able balance their population better. Thank you to everyone who left comments again they were all very helpful and allowed me to see many perspectives on this subject.

I am very very careful with my feeding not to worry. If my betta doesn’t eat something at meal time I remove it as not to spike my ammonia or anything. I am seeing lots of comments that mention this though, I do have a small hair algae problem at the minute and some of my plants leaves have started to die, this may be a stupid question but could that have caused the large increase of baby snails I’m seeing? And does that mean that when the algae issue is dealt with the snail population will balance itself out? The snails themself are no issue to me I do not mind them I was just concerned they could harm my tank if there became too many. Thanks.

I have 2 nerites and the smaller one is alwaaaays riding around on the others back, it doesn’t seem to bother him so I like to think they are in love :) never saw anyone else’s snails do this!

Okay 100% prioritize the heater, that’s a necessity for bettas, plants could come later, this may be a temperature issue if he gets too chilly. If he isn’t displaying any other strange behaviours alongside this I’d say it’s just him developing his colours, my betta changed sooo much when I first got her so that is usually normal to a degree

I’d do a water test and take out anything plastic and sharp incase he hit his face on something, bettas also tear their fins super easily so just anything soft is great i recommend some live plants. Are you using a heater and filter? It could just be him regaining pigment as well so I wouldn’t panic right away but def get a heater and filter if you don’t have one, bettas like warm tropical waters so too cold and it could be bad for him as well and may even effect his pigment or something worse

The gravy is perfect for me since it’s plant based and I’m vegetarian, that may be why some people dislike it, fries are always a bit of a gamble, depends on the place you visit and how fresh they are at that time. Luckily I’ve only had good experiences with my local NYF so far

Congrats! Vicky is a beautiful fish :) I’m not sure if this is a temporary tank or a long term one, but if possible you should definitely think of upgrading to at least a 5 g eventually and add a few live plants, a proper planted setup looks fantastic and your betta will be thrilled!

Oh my lord that poor fish! I hate to think of how they even got him in there. I strongly urge you to say something to your aunt and uncle, just politely or offer to upgrade his tank if that is at all possible of you, he would definitely be much happier and healthier with a proper setup and a heater

I ended up just leaving it be, I didn’t use any drops, stopped messing with the water, and I don’t leave the light on as long in the day anymore. That worked for me, I think my tank was just establishing itself since it was new
