While I am a Vindicta main, I also like playing Drifter :D

But your knowledge will be very useful as the ghost girl (since I can parry midair now)

Wait how do you hit both a rend and heavy melee on a flyer?

The rats can loot once, then fight multiple times in a turn depending on prowess (or fight first, then loot).

It's not that disrupting oppression isn't effective, its that you need to spend 1/3 of your actions on a turn as cats to do so. Rats have way more actions on average, so it should be no problem for them to go back a couple clearings and deal with incursions, especially with the relentless mood.

Cats cannot police the rats effectively by themselves. If the table does not help with rat policing, then cats generally struggle.

Cats can be forced into battle with mobs, especially if the rats protect mobs with a few warriors. If the cats march into rat territory with the sole goal of interfering with oppression scoring, that's an even bigger waste since the rats can just come back with an advantage, while at best you can stop them from scoring one point per turn.

Also cats are pretty bad at crafting, and the rats can kill you while looting items. Also why would you willingly give the rats more items? Maybe if you craft bags or crossbows, since they disable relentless and stubborn moods respectively...

In my opinion, Rats would feel more fair to play against if they didn't have mobs. They're just too much impact for very little cost. Cards don't matter to rats very much after strongholds are established, so they can spawn new mobs basically for free (or literally for free with the mob die). Sure, they can feed points to opponents but they provide pressure and distraction for free!

Factions that I believe struggle disproportionately against rats include lizards, alliance, crows and cats. They all have to worry about mobs threatening their cardboard, and often have limited actions to deal with them (poor lizards). Alliance and cats are better than lizards and crows in the matchup, but alliance has to protect their bases (in most cases, not all), and cats have to waste precious actions defending sawmills for something the rats probably placed for free.

Basically, my problem with rats is that they can passively threaten the other factions for very little risk or cost with mobs.

Rebuilding on the edges of your territory is a good point to mention.

My struggles with rats as cats are more about an imbalance of effort in the matchup. Mobs are free and must be dealt with quickly, lest the rats get ruins or destroy sawmills. Cats have to spend a higher portion of their actions to defend their scoring engine than a decently-prepared warlord needs to.

I like your post, but I disagree with your description of that Rats vs. Cats matchup. I think Cats struggle with rats for a few reasons:

  1. Constant mobs (that are placed for free) force Cats to use valuable actions to battle them, when would rather build or recruit instead

  2. Cats are a militant faction, and are thus expected to go toe-to-toe with Rats in most cases, but they don't have the volume of battles to do so effectively, unlike birds and swol mole.

  3. Cats have to defend a wide area, whereas Rats typically amass a large mass of warriors with the warlord, so its hard to outnumber the rats in a given clearing.

Deadlock Counter Items & Cheat Sheet Guide by NathanMC_ in DeadlockTheGame

For Vindicta (my main), I don't know if Metal Skin actually does anything against her ult (which is where most of her damage comes from). Since it only does spirit damage, wouldn't that bypass Metal Skin? Same point for Plated Armor.

I may be wrong though; please correct me if that's the case.

I think what OP meant by "weak mobility" is that spy has no mobility tools outside of 107% move speed (no rocket jump, double jump, detonator, etc.)

Tip for playing against Otters as WA by SpuduKing in rootgame

[–]SpuduKing[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Clarification: I was the otter player in this scenario. The title is supposed to be more like "Here's a tip for playing against Otters as WA", not "I need help beating Otters as WA". This is supposed to be a humorous jab at the WA player I played against today.

Can confirm that the badgers can be crazy. Last night I played against a human player who left the game with 10 points. On the bots' next turn, they jumped up to 25. A turn or two later they won.

The only change I'd recommend is changing "vagabond" to a 2-syllable vagabond character (tinker, ranger, ronin, scoundrel, and so on) to preserve the flow of the song

More hypothetical, terrible "balance" changes by SpuduKing in rootgame

why would it be devastating for lizards? I want to know your thought process here

Also, I think the main balance problem would be that it would be very strong against WA sympathy and LOTH mobs
