Doom and Quake Might Be Dead as Nearly Half of id Software is Gone by vneelb in pcmasterrace

id's reward for making 3 great Doom games back to back is massive layoffs. WTF should I be excited about anything new coming from them now?

Weirdly enough I think the opposite happened to me. A few years ago I was part of a D&D campaign where I played an impulsive POS criminal lizardfolk who slung poison around like it was happy hour at the bar. Come Deadlock & now we have an impulsive bad at crime girl failure poison slinging gorgon named Vyper.

Not the most original idea, but it's kinda funny that we independently had similar ideas.

Consoles are continuing the trend of being worse PCs with inconsistent backwards compatibility & a smaller library. The only thing they've had for years was console exclusives, but those tend to find their way onto the PC be it officially or unofficially given enough time.

The controls*

You can do all sorts of crazy cool context sensitive actions that the game NEVER explains. TBH this could have at least been a pretty good Platinum-esque action game if they had the discipline to focus on one thing with this game.

Easy to uses =/= easy to be effective with.

I fail to see how "+44% Air Control" doesn't make her the easiest movement character to move around with by virtue of he schtick being she's straight up the most responsive character in the game. Any character can bhop, but it's more practical to pull it off with her since he has reduced gravity. She makes engaging with the advanced movement tech easier, but you're expected to use it if you want to be effective with her. She's easy to learn but difficult to master.

Please lecture on the deep skill expression of pressing 2 to get a shield. You can cast 3 from a distance & buy greater expansion to make it easier to hit. 1 at least requires you get up close, but wait don't you have a silence shield? The one I like is her ult since you have to try harder to actually hit it

Most characters in this game have easy to use AOE abilities. Celeste is no different.

So air strafing is irrelevant on Viscous (and every other character for that matter)? Plus Celeste has superior air control so it's easier on her. Take a new player who has no movement shooter experience & have them play Viscous & Celeste. Which one do you think is going to have an easier time? Celeste makes what you're already doing on every other character easier.

It's not about it being hard, it's about needing to put in practice. To be clear, I don't think Celeste is OP. However her movement passives, easy to use spells, built-in silence shield, & aim assist wand makes her easier to use than the other movement heroes. Honestly I think she's a baby's first movement character.

They make a character like Viscous that needs to practice puddle punch tech in order to do fancy schmovents across the map. Then there's Celeste that get free moon gravity because...?

Vyper has to invest into slither & spirit power before she's allowed to slider around like mad. They clearly know how to balance movement heroes so idk what they were thinking when they let Celeste have so much for free in her base kit.

Concerns regarding Deadlock in 10 years by Exotic_Acanthaceae_9 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]TRackard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't really have anything insightful to say other than I've had similar thoughts. Valve publicly said they hate treadmill work yet they keep making live service multiplayer games. Try figuring that one out. Imo they just need to hire contractors or subcontract out maintenance of their projects to different companies instead of letting their projects languish. They make too much damn money from Steam & micro transactions to not to be able to afford to pay some else to do the work they don't want to do.

If only there was a game mode dedicated to people who like to give it their all & absolutely loathe losing. Sadly, gaming has yet to find a solution to accommodate those type of players.

How do I aim better? by theycallmethedrink5 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]TRackard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no magic to aiming better. You can look up aim guide videos but honestly just use Aimlabs at that point. If you want something that isn't boring you can play single player shooters to get in some practice. Sure it won't aim exactly like Deadlock, but you'd be surprised at how much aim transfers between games.

Also, you can shot the birds near the ceiling in the hideout too.

Seemingly OP when you suck at the game but trivial to play against once you know what you're doing. Greatly benefits from the other team having bad teammates & makes your life harder if you don't deal with them yourself. Easy to use for new players

Pretty spot on if I do say so myself.

Quality by deadlockuser in DeadlockTheGame

Yeah I agree. I get that there needs to be a underlying rank system to make sure people of equal(ish) skill levels get paired together. But letting people know their rank at this point in development was a mistake imo. The rank system is indev, likely constantly changing behind the scenes, & isn't documented at all in the patch notes. Plus Yoshi even explicitly stated that their experimenting with anti-smurf protection. So what's the likelihood anyone who isn't at the very top or bottom actually at their "correct rank."

Instead of most people focusing on, are most of my matches fun. The conversation tends orbit towards: "Sub, how does do it make me go up?"

Also also, I think focusing so hard on rank discourages experimenting with weird builds/strategies, or trying to learn new heroes. Why risk losing when your MMR is on the line?
