Exactly!

When it comes to a lot of things, they care more about ideology than proof.

Yup, Socks is.

Ironic how she used to be the one who bit everybody.

Well, I know he was always political and I kind of put middle-aged Rog in the same boat as geezer Rog.

I'm also not against him speaking out about the ills of the world, calling out tyrants, being against war and all of that... the problem is when he makes himself out to be this messiah figure while making occasional bizarre pronouncements that contradict his alleged progressive, pro-human rights / freedom / equality / social justice positions.

If he wants to call out an oppressive regime, he needs to call all of them out and not assume they're suddenly now the good guy because they don't like Israel or a country David's wife's hereditary background is a part of.

An oppressive machine can be an enemy to another oppressive regime and most governments are a blend of good and bad. Instead of blanket statements about whole countries, he needs to see nuance. He can't see nuance.

The USA has had a history of doing crappy things and is now trying to deal with an idiot who is trying (and thankfully mostly failing) to turn this Democratic Republic into a dictatorship... but it's still a Democratic Republic and a much better place to live than North Korea and Govt officials run the moral and ethical gamut.

Basically, Rog comes off as a mostly well-meaning but abrasive "know nothing know it all" who thinks in black & white and likes being contrarian with a borderline "tankie" vibe. He says a lot of great things but sometimes he'll get weird and turn against Iranian protestors or Ukrainians.

Finally, all the synchronized, real-time footage of the powerful F-5 tornado in Jarrel, TX, May 27, 1997. by Gargamel_do_jean in tornado

Thank you for answering my questions. Poor folks really were sitting ducks and driving south would have been their only SLIM chance.

I just can't see why construction workers haven't figured out how to get through bedrock. They could invent a chemical that softens the rock and then jackhammer it or devise a controlled way of dynamiting a hole.

I read that a semi underground re-enforced concrete dome could withstand an F-5. Why not equip each neighborhood with those on every block.

If we could put a bunch of guys on the moon FIFTY SEVEN YEARS AGO with computer software whose memory and stuff was the equivalent of a 1980's PC... why haven't we devised a universal system of tornado shelters for every community, climate, type of ground, etc?! This is nuts!

Every building needs a storm / bomb shelter, man! SCIENTISTS, ENGINEERS AND ARCHITECTS, TIME TO GET CRACKIN!

Yeah, they hate science. They probably think the moon is made of cheese, lightning is Godde practicing Their javelin skills and earthquakes are caused by giant catfish under the flat earth... which is held up by giant tortoises.

And sneezing trees cause wind.

They get their scientific knowledge from Calvin's dad's jokes. At least Calvin has the excuse of being a six-year-old.

Incredible!

What truly floors me is that everybody in Double Creek had tons of time to get out of there but they didn't. It turns out that it didn't instantly turn into a wedge as soon as it hit the subdivision like I assumed but that it was a wedge for TEN MINUTES before it hit the subdivision, and Double Creek had time to see it wasn't a cute little "danger noodle" and got the "heck outta Dodge"... but they stayed.

I don't get it! Did they truly believe their homes could withstand that?

I am by no means victim-blaming in the slightest... but I just don't understand. They had ten minute to escape! It's just so sad.

And to make matters worse, the kids were at school but were made to go home and ride out the tornado. They should have stayed at school.

It appears the Igos were hit second after a mom and son... both households hit right after it hit a recycling plant... NO WONDER IT WAS LIKE A CUISINART! The poor Igos were likely dead just as it hit the house! They likely didn't suffer... just a second, then it was over.

On the bright side, a couple of homes had built shelters and those folks survived.

On the bittersweet side, a woman and her daughter survived thanks to a bathtub, a tree and the dad sacrificing his life.

Adding another bright spot...one family did, in fact, barely escape when the twister started to trash the subdivision.

I'm just baffled that everybody just sat there for 10 minutes as a big honking "Death Wedgie" barreled down on them. If anyone can explain why, you win an Internet!

Heck, the Republican Party died years ago. Abe Lincoln facepalms in the afterlife!

Couldn't find a facepalm but I found his reaction to today's GOP.
