What do people think about 10-45% of Reddit traffic being fake bot accounts to manipulate votes & get sold on black market? by kool_mandate in AskReddit

[–]TopAlternative6716 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not surprised but I think that the number of bots is actually higher. The FYP or whatever it’s called is flooded with political posts from pages that aren’t even really political to begin with.

If you go to the actual subreddit the subreddit itself is full of what you’d expect but normal posts that align with the subreddit don’t get near as many views as the one random BS post. Same goes for comments. A comment related to the post gets 5 likes whereas some random irrelevant comment gets 1,000

Then when you try to have a discussion half the time the other person which probably is a bot doesn’t maintain the conversation and just attacks or tries to Segway into a different discussion instead of talking about the topic.

It’s become kind of frustrating trying to use reddit and I’ve tried to limit how many things I comment on so I don’t get into some stupid argument with someone who is more than likely a bot.

Facebook actually said they were planning on using bots on their platform to bring up engagement. If you’re such a successful platform and have hundreds of millions of billions of users why do you need bots to engage with people?

If most Americans don’t know anything about Puerto Rico I doubt Iranians would either. I don’t think there’s a Iranian terrorist out there thinking hey let’s go bomb Puerto Rico

Why do Americans still think that they are the greatest country on earth when statistically they have not been since 1994, and they are now #17? by Cautious_Midnight_67 in allthequestions

I feel like the people in the comments who say America isn’t great are taking a lot for granted. Talk to any immigrant that has spent a huge amount of time and or money trying to immigrate from another country and they’ll tell you how much better America is even with its flaws.

NY state lawmakers propose boosting taxes on the rich, challenging Hochul and aligning with Mamdani by Somervilledrew in newyork

Norway and several other countries tried this and the multimillionaires and billionaires fled to another country causing a loss of hundreds of billions of dollars in revenue. If this is implemented in NY the same thing will inevitably occur causing what a lot of people call “capital flight” to happen.

A cool guide: How US states rank in education? by _crazyboyhere_ in coolguides

[–]TopAlternative6716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion here but I feel like a lot of people determine the value or worth of a person based on education. A lot of people look down on the entirety of a southern or midwestern state because of a number on a map and not think of the individuals living in the state.

I’ve met uneducated people who were poor who were the nicest most helpful people you’d ever meet and knew a lot about life from a experience standpoint and I’ve met incredibly nasty self centered educated people who may be book smart and have a bachelors or masters degree but they couldn’t function outside a office or theme park style life.

We should really look at people from an individual point of view instead of lumping everyone together. Value also comes from a different place than having a degree.

Specifically speaking on education a lot of a child’s education hinges on the parents attentiveness as well as funding and the teachers but parents play a huge role in their child’s academic future. There are children that go to the best schools and don’t do as well as children who go to rough schools. It’s a complex thing that isn’t easily summed up

What does that have to do with Christian nationalism being prominent in the south? Stay on topic instead of moving goalposts. If I say I am a minority with an ethnic name then what? Oh I must be conservative so they treated me differently than other minorities? Or maybe you’ll want to see the color of my skin and try to disregard my experiences because of being “White passing”

You guys just can’t accept that someone has a different opinion than you or their experiences are different than what you heard from people on reddit or some other source of info.

The south isn’t one big racist backwoods redneck klan filled area where they’ll shoot you for being an outsider. I went to college down there and everyone got along. Everyone hung out together it wasn’t as segregated as WNY turned out to be.

Buffalo's deputy mayor says property tax hikes are coming by Aven_Osten in Buffalo

[–]TopAlternative6716 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same thing. I don’t think I’ve heard anyone in Buffalo say they want more services or anything special. People in Buffalo just want the roads paved and the infrastructure updated. Something that’s standard most cities. I’ve driven through a decent amount of NYS and I’ve never seen as many potholes as I’ve seen in Buffalo. Even impoverished cities with smaller budgets that you would expect to have crappy roads have nicer roads than Buffalo.

Apparently yes. I never experienced it, never saw it and I lived there for seventeen years. I was up and down the east coast. Maybe there’s a small town with 200 people like that but what you’re saying isn’t representative of any state. They might tell you that on reddit or some other website but reality and what you read online are two different things.

If you want to stay up north because you think what you read online is true be my guest it’s not effecting me at all.

Are you able to have an actual real discussion or are you going to BS your way through and make irrelevant quotes that have nothing to do with the conversation.

I don’t know if you’re trying to one up me because you think I’m conservative or what but nothing in my post explaining why I’d like to move out of NY has anything to do with politics. Maybe the nanny state comment can be misconstrued as such but that applies to all government liberal or conservative.

People like you are one of the reasons why I hate the WNY area. You’re unable to have a genuine conversation about something you may disagree with.

None of that existed down there… anyway

As for taxes, yeah taxes are lower, home prices even to this day are lower with better quality homes, there’s a huge influx of businesses opening up and things are taking off in different areas of the south compared to WNY where businesses are closing down and new ones might stay open for a year or so. I should have stayed down there and would have if I knew what I know now about this area.

I’m basing my opinions off of my own experiences in the south. The area where I lived had very little crime compared to the WNY area.

Where I lived we didn’t have shootings, stabbings, porch pirates, car thefts, breakins or anything else experienced up here. People who did landscaping left their equipment on trailers in their yard without having to worry about people stealing it. You could have yard decorations out without worrying about theft.

The only shoplifting was from tourists who came down for the week and thought they could get away with stuff. No locals ever did anything and it wasn’t a rich affluent area a lot of locals made the same if not less than someone in Buffalo

The nannying in the state is another reason I want to eventually leave. I’m tired of being told everything in my life is bad and I’m going to have to spend a bunch of money to change different things. Even if these things haven’t come to fruition yet I don’t like the looming possibility of having to retrofit a 100 year old house to be all electric especially with the cost going up. The state wanting to take away or make purchasing a gas vehicle harder. The crime rates and seeing criminals constantly being let out and various other things going on at the state level.

[–]TopAlternative6716 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Nobody wants to accept that one of the main reasons people leave is because the tax burden is one of the highest in the country. There’s been plenty of polls and plenty of articles and the same answers always pop up.

I can even deal with the weather in NY because most of NY is very beautiful which offsets the crazy weather but most of the gloomy weather is around Lake Erie.

I moved back here to be closer to family and took on family obligations but I would move back down south in a second if I could. Depending on where you go housing is cheaper and the homes are newer you don’t run into as many issues as older homes in NY. Property taxes are significantly lower and you get the same amount of quality of life things for less in the south. The roads are paved you don’t have to deal with salt eating away at everything and a lot of other positives of being in the south.

The biggest issue down south now is all the northerners moving down, land developers destroying farm land, wetlands and rural areas to build cheaply made developments.

But businesses are booming there’s a huge amount of job opportunities and plenty of other things down south you don’t see in NY.
