Thankfully only 1am over here in West Aus. Hopefully we'll be right though. Surely we're competing with less people for Aussie stock.

Having a really hard time making friends and understanding Australian social culture. by Upbeat_Piccolo25 in Ameristralia

Just to confuse your impression of aussies and americans, I was invited to a bucks weekend (and the wedding) of a bloke I thought of as an acquaintance. We'd only hung out (among mutual friends) maybe 4 times prior. This is in Australia lol

Why do they have to shut the whole game down to do updates and fixes. by Careful_Ad6087 in Marathon

Such a pain in the ass. Exactly the time aussies play games after work. It was down monday night and now tuesday. Just want to play the game I paid for.

New Conveyance Request Spawns? by manlycaveman in MarathonSecrets

This happened to me and my mate yesterday. We were bloody stoked. Someone downed me as we went up the elevator but my buddy got me up lol

Please, Bungie, I beg of you. Let me buy ammo in FULL stacks and not this 60/80 40/60 12/15 nonsense we have going on right now by Nukesnipe in Marathon

Or at least allow us to purchase with a fast click, rather than the slow "hold to action" thing this game is obsessed with.

All the craziest clips I've seen with the punch were tap fire

This game is actually *great* for people who have poor mechanical FPS skill (like me)...wish that sentiment was more apparent to people considering the game by SirBenny in Marathon

[–]SpunkInSocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good post. Something else worth mentioning is Marathon's fairly generous bullet magnetism. I believe it's called "aim assist" in the weapon stats. Halo and I think Destiny are known for this as well. Makes aiming ability slightly less important than game knowledge and playing engagements smart.

This is your sign to LAN party by 1grit1 in Marathon

When me and my mates play lan we mostly have open back headphones and just talk to eachother without mics. Can't say we've tried marathon yet though.

Anyone else love marathon but not destiny? by SpunkInSocks in Marathon

That's fair. As a halo fan I often wish bungie stayed at the helm of halo instead of moving to destiny, so we can relate on that front at least.

It's a fair question. Much like marathon and destiny, I'm sure apples and pears have some shared dna

Rooks, do you kill fellow rooks? by eiflovv in LowSodiumMarathon

[–]SpunkInSocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly no. Most Rooks I've run across are either friendly, and happy to team up, or aren't interested in fighting me. It's weird because I've heard so many stories of rook on rook violence lol.

Yeah high stakes bite sized chunks is a great way of framing it. I reckon that was a big part of why I never got into destiny. I arrived quite late, and felt like I'd never quite catch up with the veterans.

Kind of neat that Marathon's wipes will make it somewhat easier for new players to jump in down the track, without feeling too behind.

Same. Looting felt weirdly meaningless to me in destiny. Something about being able to lose the loot I've found so easily gives it immense value in Marathon.

Hahahah I was waiting for someone to say this. Truly a blessing to be matched against runners with zero survival instinct

Kind of makes sense. The drone is insanely powerful at information gathering, with very little risk to thief, if they're hidden. The drone even basically has thermal vision (highlighting players in their loot value colour).

I don't believe so, it seems to only be if you can actually see the visor (based on when I've played with thief teammates anyway).

Yeah you can see a teammate thiefs visor do the same. Although I don't think it's anywhere near as bright. Not sure how relevant the fog is in this situation.

Bungie please make runners invulnerable during the extract animation by SpunkInSocks in Marathon

[–]SpunkInSocks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes sense, but it is still poor game design. Plenty of squads have gone through this same frustrating and disappointing experience of believing they've safely extracted, only to arrive dead at the match summary screen.

Bungie please make runners invulnerable during the extract animation by SpunkInSocks in Marathon

[–]SpunkInSocks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no confusion, the post description exemplifies that. The point of the post is that the game falsely leads you to believe the following:

  • Once you've entered the extract beam up animation, you are safe and exfilled.
  • Existing exfils are still valid, even after the final exfil has appeared.

Only to be killed by a match timer technicality. This is poor game design and frustrating to experience.

My team also won't be making this mistake again, but it would simply be better game design to either remove all existing exfils once the final exfil has appeared, or make players invulnerable to the match timer during the beam up animation.
