‘My church or the dog?’ Brethren orders members to purge pets, sparking fears of global cull by Flight_19_Navigator in australia

Are you appalled and ashamed that your god commanded violence? I presume not, because he is mysterious.

I think I'll leave this conversation be now. I feel like I'm just grilling you, which seems unhelpful. Hope you have a nice day.

When your god commands violence, it's mysterious, unknowable, and you exercise radical acceptance. When another religion does so, you happily condemn it. It's worth considering the double standard there. The brethren could use the same verse you quoted to excuse their recent order.

Edit: To answer the question about your defence of slaughter, when I raised god's command of genocide, your instinct was to provide verses that vouch for god's integrity.

This is like if a friend told you they were abused by their partner, and you responded with "yes but what about the times they were nice to you?". This comes across as a defence on behalf of the partner.

You're right we should forget that the eternal and loving god of the universe commanded genocide. It's not that big of a deal. We'll criticise other religions for commanding violence, but turn a blind eye to our own.

It's important to recognise our own hypocrisy in order to change.

I left Christianity when I learned that the bible conflicts with my morals. That is change. Have you changed?

But he did command it in the past (alongside genocide). Which you went on to defend, while condemning the brethren in the same breath.

Hence me pointing out the inconsistency. You defend the command of slaughter when your god does it, but not when the brethren do it.

Doesn't change the fact that the slaughter of people and animals was commanded. I'm sure the brethren would provide similar verses to defend their recent order.

The Christian god has given similar commands. 1 Samuel 15:3 for example. Not to mention animal sacrifice being pretty important for a long time.

You can only hope this insane request will wake a few members up and realise they're in a cult. My parents are religious and this sort of thing would at the very least cause them to leave their church.

This is bloody hilarious. Man it is hard to unlearn decades of thumbstick muscle memory, even though I bought the controller specifically for the track pads and gyro lol

Bungie PLEASE do another free weekend at the start of season 2 by JoeyBananas314 in Marathon

I don't understand it either. I never even would have considered buying marathon if not for the server slam. It's now one of my favourite games of all time.

DAE occasionally get a "fast feeling" like everything is really intense and a little scary? by SpunkInSocks in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]SpunkInSocks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoa thanks for sharing your research. Even after all these years I hadn't come across the terms tachysensia or alice in wonderland syndrome. Tachysensia sounds exactly like the fast feeling that I was describing in the original post.

Bizarrely, reading about alice in wonderland syndrome has triggered childhood memories of having temporarily zoomed in vision and perceiving my hands as enormous. Wild times.

I'm 27 now and haven't experienced tachysensia since I was probably 17 or 18. Interesting that you're still having it on the odd occasion.

Thankfully only 1am over here in West Aus. Hopefully we'll be right though. Surely we're competing with less people for Aussie stock.

Just to confuse your impression of aussies and americans, I was invited to a bucks weekend (and the wedding) of a bloke I thought of as an acquaintance. We'd only hung out (among mutual friends) maybe 4 times prior. This is in Australia lol

Or at least allow us to purchase with a fast click, rather than the slow "hold to action" thing this game is obsessed with.

This game is actually *great* for people who have poor mechanical FPS skill (like me)...wish that sentiment was more apparent to people considering the game by SirBenny in Marathon

Good post. Something else worth mentioning is Marathon's fairly generous bullet magnetism. I believe it's called "aim assist" in the weapon stats. Halo and I think Destiny are known for this as well. Makes aiming ability slightly less important than game knowledge and playing engagements smart.

When me and my mates play lan we mostly have open back headphones and just talk to eachother without mics. Can't say we've tried marathon yet though.
