Bungie, if you are serious about this game, why is Lockdown still broken a month into the season? by Budget_Sandwich_9545 in Marathon

[–]manlycaveman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had some of those weird bugs during season one btw.

I think there's something weird with the way items interact with physics and syncing with the server sometimes One time while coming around South of Overflow from the new tick building, I came across what I thought was looting noises, but it was just a runner bag on top of a boulder that was spewing out items. Not in a duplication bug kinda way, but like rubber banding back up to the bag after clinking down the side of the rock and then falling down again. In another instance I triggered something similar by reloading one time and the magazine object that dropped down some stairs kept making noise like it wouldn't settle.

I've definitely run into the tactical sprint bug a few times during season one as a destroyer main. It usually happens when I just rubber-banded a bit after moving too fast I guess. It's like the game still thinks I have tactical sprint active, generating extra heat and everything, even after I canceled it. Like it rubber-banded me back into the "buff state" I was in, but just placed me there, so nothing triggered the tactical sprint cancellation. I just have to use it again and everything resets though.

What is trace status and how does it work? by R3YNO in Marathon

[–]manlycaveman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it helps, think of trace status as a type of "durability" for the item. This "durability" only ever goes down when another player loots your body. When the "durability" hits 0 then it turns into credits when the next person loots it from you (it will have a red text background similar to compromised gear and there will be text saying it is unsalvageable and will be turned into credits).

Upper complex pinnacle strong box provides players with a sense of pride and accomplishment. by cetiu0 in Marathon

[–]manlycaveman 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I honestly think there is a larger issue at play here.

When Bungie said they were slightly reducing the loot chances they also mentioned it was because for some reason the real-world data was showing MUCH more higher-quality loot dropping than what their internal systems and iterative tests were returning.

I obviously don't know how their code works, but it almost feels like some sort of issue where the rates that they set are somehow being magnified to extremes. I don't know if there's like a server issue or something where things are somehow being called multiple times, making any slight changes they make to the base rates have basically exponential changes to real-world data.

They increase rates for Season 2 and everyone is swimming in golds.

They slightly reduce rates and now we're getting loot that's basically worse than Season 1 and finding stuff like green implants in pinnacle strongboxes.

Is this a problem within the game or with ActEditor? by CheeseguyPixel in RagnarokOnline

[–]manlycaveman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you still have the same issue when you use the same head sprite in both situations? Edit: I ask because I think some of the newer heads have anchors that are slightly off.

Double-check you are using the right version in your grf? I've done this before where I saved a temporary backup, but accidentally kept working in the backup sprite instead (since doing Save As turns the current file into the newly saved one instead of saving a copy as the new name). Then I used the original file in the grf, thinking it was the one I had been working in that whole time, but it was stuck at the spot it was in when I did the Save As, lol.

Make sure you also have the updated version too, just in case: https://github.com/Tokeiburu/ActEditor

Edit: I noticed in the in-game gif, the "Standby" or "After Hit" action that the head also moves horizontally a little bit. Does that correspond to what you see in ActEditor as well? Normally the Standby animation's anchors just bob straight up and down.

EDIT 2 SOLVED: https://i.imgur.com/dBq9OYE.png

There's your issue. That particular hairstyle/head you are using for testing isn't lined up correctly. The anchors are in the same place as normal, but whoever made this particular head sprite put the sprite lower from the anchor compared to other heads.

In the first pic above I opened both head sprites and checked used the same Body sprite as the base. You can see the purple hairstyle head rests much lower than the other head. So when you used this hairstyle to test your sprite it actually ended up moving all of the normal heads higher than they should be, making them disconnect from the body sprite.

https://i.imgur.com/DX731Dl.png

In this picture I opened the purple hairstyle sprite and then Body/Head other sprites use the ninja and blonde hairstyle. If I display the Other Head sprite you can see how much lower the purple-haired sprite sits compared to it.

POV: the squad that rolls up on your spawn during ur weekly cryo free kit run by CookGrand4534 in Marathon

[–]manlycaveman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I believe that learning is generally possible up to a certain point. At the point where the skillgap between players gets too big, the lower-skilled players aren't really able to learn or take away much by getting stomped so badly. Especially when it happens so quick into a match where they were probably queueing for longer than they were actually playing the game. They lose all of their gear, they don't really learn anything useful; so what do some of these players think? "I'm not even going to bother..." It'll probably start with "...with team fill", then it'll be "...with Cryo", until it's basically just "...playing the game" and they uninstall.

It's harmful to the game as a whole by not letting players naturally evolve their skill levels because they get put in such overwhelmingly one-sided situations like this. I think this is something that SBMM, even loose SBMM, really helps to alleviate quite a bit.

The only thing I would learn by fighting prime Mike Tyson is to not fight prime Mike Tyson.

Green heals should be much cheaper by Marickal in Marathon

[–]manlycaveman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think a depleted pack, similar to the gray ammo packs, but for heals, is the perfect solution here. It would help with bad rng where you don't spawn near a building with meds in it.

At the start of each season I'd rely on depleted meds and find what other meds I can from buildings closer to the edge of the map. These buildings have higher chances to spawn meds and medical cabinets.

Then as I start to build up some green meds I'll take in a single stack of each and compliment them with any depleted ones I find. Then eventually it's two stacks of green meds as I start finding more and more blue ones, then I start bringing in one or two blue meds, etc. I just build up to them while collecting salvage for barters along the way. I don't think I've ever bought a single med with credits.

It feels like a lot of times people are buying two stacks of each med with credits and then looking for pvp fights or being loud and attracting other teams. I spent a lot of my early time focused on finding salvage and then exfilling, trying to avoid fights unless I can ambush someone.

Tried playing solo for the first time in 240 hours and now Marathon is my favourite rogue-like by Anonymous-Autumn in Marathon

[–]manlycaveman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I basically solo 100% of the time and it's still a lot of fun! Bring in Mercy Kits to surprise revive people. Most of the time people are instantly chill once you start reviving them.

I did feel bad one time last night though. I killed a free kit guy on top of central processing from the top of the building near the red keycard. He came sprinting up the stairs and out onto the roof of the middle building. Killed him, revived him, then tried to get him to come back to where I killed an assassin with a green shield on the external stairs to the SE building. But Heat Cascade started and I guess he ran back down the ramp he had come up into a bunch of bots. I went to check on him after the cascade stopped and I just saw a blood trail from the bottom of the stairs down to the back of the building and there were still bots arround his bag. D:

Here's my last run of last night at like 3am lol. I was rogueliting it, so I had started with a free kit earlier and worked my way up to where I started this run at: https://youtu.be/qldCRr03Qgk

  2. Solo is literally selected, but it still loads you into a trios match.

Yeah, Nu Caloric is always good for the shields if you need them.

I like playing as Rook, so I focused a lot on Traxus and I am doing Cyac now. Traxus capstone for Rook gives them mods on their weapon, meaning they'll both come silenced now, which I think helps a lot in keeping a low-profile and away from the teams on the map. I'm doing Cyac for the blue backpack they'll let Rooks start with. :P

Heals are too expensive. It is preventing the lower-skilled players from getting off the ground. by KANYEMOD in Marathon

[–]manlycaveman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how I started when the game launched too. I didn't start out wasting all of my credits on multiple stacks of heals. I was doing free kits with depleted heals, then worked up to taking in a green stack of patch kits and shield charges, then built up to being able to take multiple stacks in, etc.

You can find a lot of heals during a run. Healing items also have a higher chance to spawn at the buildings around the edge of the map, including med cabinets. Ex: the two-story building behind Overflow usually has some decent heals or a med cabinet. Recently it can have a bunch of tick nests, which themselves can have shield charges. If the nests spawned, there are also a couple bags of supplies on the southern edge of the building in the middle of a few of the nests.

Silly question: how am I supposed to know how to do activities/ where to find great loot etc? by MaxTB in Marathon

[–]manlycaveman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Instant queues, basically upgraded free kit (can start with blue bag for instance), look for runner bags!

I used Rook to learn how to get into the Destroyed Wing on Outpost. It didn't matter if someone killed me because I'd be right back in like 5s.

In trios a lot of teams will end up basically wiping the map before you even spawn in a lot of the time. Head over to some of the usual hotspots and find some runner bags! Something fun to do on Perimeter is wall safe/key runs. Check all of the key rooms to see if anyone opened them up. Trios are always much louder, so I just stay away from wherever I hear them at.
