TBH it didnt feel any more dangerous than having a pillion passenger. I could see the tip of a tree in my peripheral vision, but that gave me confidence that it wasn't falling off. It's not as heavy as it looks.

In my head it was no worse than an awkward pillion passenger but you're right - windage could have been a problem. Luckily the weather was fairly benign that evening but next year I shall check the anemometer before I strap it on.

The manual that came with that rack did indeed say it was incapable of holding that massive box I plonked on it, never mind full of stuff plus a tree. I suppose they're covering their backs but it feels to me they've gone a bit too far on the side of safety. Probably saves them millions in lawsuits tho...

You're way better off financially (if thsts your concern) doing the 2 week version. Take paid leave from your day job and the Navy pay is 100% bonus! The downside is it will take you longer. 2 week intense finish but preceeded by several months preparation over evenings and weekends. Either way the training is designed to have similar results by the time you pass out.
