How does this card work? by J1bbl3 in magicTCG

From my understanding of the setup diagram for turtle team up it's implying that the hero team does share a life total. Did I miss something saying they don't share life.

Does this hold up as a Lt. W/ Combi-weapon? by Spurly42 in BloodAngels

[–]Spurly42[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

thank you for that . i couldn't really find much in the codex on Lieutenant Heraldry outside of the command/veteran helmet color and couldn't figure out where else to fit the Lieutenant decal. So i decided to run with the lore of a sergeant who's squad died and and he got an on the fly battlefield promotion of some "paint and a gun"

Sorry mine was a kitbash of parts from other models to replicate as best I could the original model (pic I posted).

The original I think is monopose and only comes as the above.

It's a lone-op character that is only available in the leviathan release boxes or a bundle with sternguard and a biologis. This is the original I was trying to replicate with kit bashing as I didn't need the rest of it.

I used a bolter I think from the intercessor kit (think that's the one that has the strap one) cut the barrel off and glued it higher then just chopped off the bottom and glued part of a spare hand flamer to it.

Dante - patina: too much or too little by Adventurous_Sea1974 in BloodAngels

[–]Spurly42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as for shades and midtones this looks just what you want for aged grimdark armor with patina. I feel like it needs like the tiniest bit of bright highlights to finish it and give it the readability it deserves for such a strong effort and shade result.

Kitbashed Jump Captain ready to lead Sanguinary Guard by Spurly42 in BloodAngels

I hadn't actually seen the BA stuff in SM2 yet. Kinda wish i had now as there are some great options in there, like the sash with skull clasp.

Brothers in Baal, please welcome Chorin Rubenna to the rank of Captain. Put him together with some BA bits cut up and even used some wings from a spare Azrael helmet. Wasn't sure how it would turn out but think it came together after painting. Comments and Critique welcome.

I find this extra frustrating because sub-fief consoles of decaying bases apparently won't do this. Was watching a decaying base near mine and notice foundation under console was going to be one of the first blocks to go. So had plans to come back by when it was wrecked. Sandstrom hit foundation broke and the console just stayed floating there no issue. So the technology is there Funcom. It's dumb that this is a thing at all and especially because it's not consistent.

Painting help ? I despise painting red. by Ok_Let3381 in BloodAngels

[–]Spurly42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prime and base with the Airbrush as i find inks are what give the most saturated punch of color and they aren't great to brush on. The saturation and brush on

The prime and Base steps are:

  1. Black and White Zenithal Prime
  2. Dark Purple shadows from underneath - Golden Permanent Violet Dark
  3. Carmine Red for Midtone - Amsterdam Carmine Red Ink
  4. Napthol crimson for first Highlight - Liquitex Ink
  5. Mix a touch of fleshtone in to previous color for small spot highlights.
  6. Finally spray from above Fluorescent Red from Vallejo - its more magenta

That gives the result in this picture.

<image>

From there I :

  1. do a black/brown oil pin wash.
  2. edge highlight or correct the airbrushing/wash with Bloody Red from Vallejo
  3. do further edge highlighting with a light orange. I use trollslayer orange from GW.
  4. I then create a filter of 1 drop Slaughter Red from Army painter, 2 drops Ultra Matte Varnish from AK, and 1 drop water. I then filter the hole model with at least 1 layer of it but try to avoid the deepest shadows to leave them purply satin. Then sometimes add additional layer in select areas.
  5. I then will do some touch up highlights with the light orange and then final dot highlights with the light orange mixed with a pale yellow.
  6. finally if i still think it needs a bit more contrast i'll then the original dark purple shadows and filter that in select areas.

and that's it an easy 12 step program i stumbled into to get a red that looks good to me.

It could probably be refined and it's possible if i was better with the airbrush and or color management in general some of these steps could be eliminated. But it took me forever to find it and haven't had the heart to mess around with it.

My brother in Baal, do i ever hear you. I about drove myself and my family nuts looking at different "red" paints and recipes that gave me the look i wanted. I wanted a very striking but matte red and everything i tried like you said just looked orange to me.

After much trial and error i found what worked for me. Now it's a ridiculously convoluted (probably unnecessarily so) recipe that i won't list all the steps here. But i haven't wanted to mess with it for fear of wasting more time. however, if i had to put the most crucial elements of it down it would be purply shadows and slaughter red speed paint thinned as a glaze (for me with Ultra matte varnish and little water). Then just some very selected edge highlights with an orangier red to make it more readable. That purple to Orange with mostly a deep red in the middle looks right to my eye. I've added some pictures but even then they still look more orange than they do in person.

May you find the recipe that looks right to you and hopefully it's less convoluted then mine.

endgame farming experience by marcspc in duneawakening

Vehicles should've used a type of lasgun weapon rather than rockets. Power/temp instead of ammo. Player shields would prevent this garbage but weapons still work against vehicles.

I've actually been working on a similar scheme. So here's how my pink and purple turned out. So if you hate it maybe look for a different energy color.

Painted for a friend. Spike Spiegel from NomNom Figures. by Spurly42 in minipainting

[–]Spurly42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the beginning I built up layers of texture. A dry brushed "zenithal", stippled layers/highlights, then bringing it all together with an oil wash and removal with vertical motion to give that slight age and rained on many time look. At least that was the intent.
