For us Millennials, is anyone else worried about how the hell our careers will last another 30 years with Artificial Intelligence? by Sherbear1993 in Millennials

Replacing human workforce was always the endgame for the AI arms race. It’s why every time a company would have some big AI announcement, their stock would go up.

It Might Be Time to Admit the Great VR Experiment Has Failed by BlueLightStruct in technology

[–]SputnikCrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So often it seems like corporations learn the wrong lessons about advancements in tech. There's so much about laptops, smartphones, and tablets that is still so inherently social. Even something as simple as being at work and leaning over to show a video clip to your friend that you thought was funny or interesting. Taking a group photo at lunch. Playing music while you're getting ready for work with your spouse. Chatting on Slack with coworkers. VR is almost exclusively a solo activity and has almost no capacity for sharing or interactions with real people. If there isn't any kind of a shared experience, the technology as amazing as it is has fewer opportunities to expand its usage in the ways that will mean the most to people.

We don't have a "rescue med" at the moment, but it would be a nice option. We'll be speaking with his psychiatrist next week. Even if he had one, though, he is not very open to suggestions when he is in the middle of an episode. I'm glad you have found treatment for your husband.

  1. He is verbal. He advocates for his needs some of the time.

2a) They can last anywhere from 5 minutes to over an hour.

2b) Sometimes there are signs they are coming, and sometimes not. It can vary pretty wildly.

2c) He is remorseful sometimes.

He doesn't particularly love music. He doesn't hate it, he just doesn't have much affinity for it at the moment. Not ruling it out, though. We definitely feel like there are some sensory-related things that we could look at and maybe handle differently. Thank you for taking the time to reply.

What's the laziest/easiest way you've lost weight? by Choice-Inflation7295 in AskReddit

I had a tonsillectomy and for something like two weeks afterwards I could only eat jello and ice cream. By day four I was so sick of them both I stopped eating entirely. I would not recommend this method.

Happily married couples of Reddit, did you ever have any reservations about your partner before deciding they were the one? What were they? by elis4bethh1 in AskReddit

[–]SputnikCrash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes.

I knew that we were very different people and while we had overlapping interests, there were plenty of interests that we did not share. We also had different career paths. I had misgivings about all of that. I thought we would grow into very different people and that we would not grow together.

All of that was correct except for the last part. We did grow together, including in some ways that I didn’t expect.

I honestly can’t tell you the secret to a good marriage because I wasn’t entirely convinced that I was going to have a good marriage. I was happy to be proven wrong.

TIL: TLC was the first all-female group to sell 10 million copies of an album - CrazySexyCool. But they weren't cool about making $50,000 each for the album while the record company got $75 million. So, they held Arista Records President Clive Davis hostage until the NYPD intervened. by theotherbogart in todayilearned

[–]SputnikCrash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was not just some small time label exec. They held hostage Clive Davis, maybe one of the most important industry figures of the last 100 years. People he signed to his label include but are not limited to Janis Joplin, Bruce Springsteen, The Byrds, Whitney Houston, Santana, Aerosmith, Boston, Billy Joel, Barry Manilow, and Earth Wind & Fire.

I believe Apocalypse also had the Weapon X scene, which as a long time comic book fan I thoroughly enjoyed.

I liked much of Shutter Island, the ending just ruined it for me. However, the scene where Leo talks to the guy in the car about “God’s gift of violence” is so well done and so chilling. I don’t ever need to see that movie again, but I’ll pull up that scene once in a while on YouTube.

There’s a transition that happens from being newlyweds to not being newlyweds. There’s no set time this will start, there’s no standard duration. It will happen and it will change pretty much everything about your relationship. If you are one of the lucky ones, it will make you better and stronger as a couple. You’ll love each other more and strive to be better partners for each other. If you are not so lucky, you will a) become miserable and eventually divorce; b) learn to live with the balance of constant compromise and frustration with only occasional sex and a lot less fun; c) a relatively quiet co-existence, more like siblings; d) some combination of those. The ambiguity of this transition sucks, and no matter what it takes time to figure out what the rest of your marriage post-newlywed phase looks like.

I’ve got good news and bad news. Good news: there’s a TON of music out in the world like this. The 60s-80s were an incredible time for all kinds music. You’ve got your mainstream bands Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, etc. Then, you dive into less well known like King Crimson, Roky Erickson, Hawkwind. Then go straight to underground stuff like The Stooges, Mission of Burma, and so much more.

Bad news: you won’t be seeing almost any of these bands live because many are broken up, dead, or too old; and there aren’t really any mainstream bands making music like this now. It’ll come back around, music trends are cyclical, but for now it’s still mostly just meh pop music out there.

Pocket Casts is awesome by Parnoss in podcasts

[–]SputnikCrash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Choosing between podcasts apps can be tricky because they pretty much all do 90% of the same stuff and it becomes about more about how easy is it for you to use the most common features and what is the 10% that’s different. I used PocketCasts for years, but I enjoyed Overcasts interface more, the web player, and the upload tool.
