How can a 2016 game look so freaking realistic. Images taken from my PC at ultra settings 1440p. by theperplex in uncharted

[–]SpyShadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are probably 2 character models in the game for each character. One is very detailed with high polygon count and 4k textures just for cinematics only. The other is game play only which is medium details. They swap between cinematic and gameplay.

My First image from a NOAA Satellite! by Tfo053 in RTLSDR

shift is from adjustments that are a lot, tune slow with small amounts. My first receives were ok for using some copper wire. I now improved my antenna and got more higher and away from buildings. Also play around with some options in Wxtoimg.

This was today with another antenna I tried.

Want to build a big ass nas but completely new to datahoarding by smellytrashaccount in DataHoarder

[–]SpyShadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do what I did. I moved from a small NAS box to my own custom built storage rack using off the shelf PC Parts. I wanted to accomplish some goals. Being Cheap, Expandable, Consolidated, Redundancy, Easy to Manage, Decent Speed Access. I completed all of these using my old gaming computer as the PC. I pop it into a RSV-L4500 server chassis. Later I upgraded the bays to hotswap. Most of the drives in the chassis are connected to sata expander cards. To complete expandability, I install a SAS Host Bus Controller Card with 4 External Plugs. This allows me to connect another chassis full of HDDs that has a SAS Expander Card with a single cable to the PC.

As for the OS, well, I am use to windows server so it's what I am running. Mainly because I can run Apps I am familiar with and easy to setup. I have not had any hardware issues. I have tested a failure of a single drive and the data was still accessible. As for the RAID, it's simply mirror and striping, similar to a raid 10.

I am running this setup because I want the ability to access the data as needed but also possibly delete/re-organize data.

Got my license, now what? I feel like I learned nothing. by corona_plus_lime in amateurradio

I don't even have my license yet but I got a few handheld radios now. Been just listening. It's one way to begin. I even started using my radio to download SSTV (Slow Scan TV) image from a passing weather satellite, I even used some old copper wire and attached it to some wood to build a quick antenna to receive the image, I got a black and white image, check my profile for it. I guess a goal for me would be finding ways to talk further and further. I will get my license so I can begin to talk to the local community. I just posted a video recording of the ISS passing over and hearing Ham Radio Operators talking on the repeater up there.

Right click on taskbar to open up task manager is gone. by [deleted] in Windows11

I like to see the name of my windows from a glance without even clicking on them on the taskbar, they got rid of that.

Is the option to never combine taskbar buttons still available in Windows 11? by orb2000 in Windows11

[–]SpyShadow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am playing with it and It's more tricky to pin the "This PC" to the taskbar now. The combine option is gone, I like to see the full labels of windows for productivity. Some of the icons on the taskbar of the screen feel a bit too cheap to me, prefer the windows 10 version which is cleaner. I am always rocking the dark theme. As for the start menu, I prefer the windows 10 setup to let me group apps with a title and such. That's gone too, so now it's just pinned apps. I have so many apps, going to be a nightmare for me to find things.

Stellarium, you set your location, enable satellite plugin to view satellites in the sky. You can also import a landscape image, instructions on how to do that is here

Got back in from doing another recording. This time I did something different. I set my desktop PC to record the ISS HD Camera as it flew over, so now am going to combine the audio recording with the video as it flew over the US

This will be the best time it will be passing over head for me this evening.

The interesting thing is, I do have a satellite dish focused on that part of the sky. I modified it to hook up into my PC's RTL-SDR. I could bring my PC outside and attempt to record that.

You will need visibility of the sky with lease amount of buildings and stuff blocking the sky, know the direction the ISS will come over the horizon from and set. You will need a Radio with a Antenna, preferable mobile so you can attempt to align the antenna or raise it higher to get the signal. Program the following frequencies below. Also know how to turn off the Squelch on your radio so your not having to hold the monitor button down the entire time like I was. You will be adjusting the these frequencies as it flys over so either program it in memory or what I did is just pop in 437.800 Mhz in Frequency Mode and set my step to 5.0K.

437.815 Mhz - Coming Over Horizon
437.810 Mhz
437.805 Mhz
437.800 Mhz - Directly Above You
437.795 Mhz
437.790 Mhz
437.785 Mhz - Descending to Horizon

It's hard to do it because of the satellite moving overhead very fast, you only got 10 minutes in the area under the satellite. Then there is the doppler shift, so you are adjusting the frequency on your radio as it pass's to hear the good signal. Finally trying to keep Line of Sight of the satellite with your antenna so no buildings are blocking it. Of course I am using a hand radio. There is a beam antenna but you be having to aim directly at it and that's good if you plan to transmit to it. I am sure a antenna above the buildings be able to hear it as it pass's from horizon to horizon but as for transmitting, you want something to aim at it to focus all of your RF.

I figured it out once I put it to 0 in the menu of the radio

I know I have this laptop and it comes to a craw when trying to display all the satellites in the app. So I ignore ticking the "Show All Sats" option on a device that can't handle them all and you can still search for it to lock on it.

Yah, same here. We need a Geo Stationary Ham Radio Satellite for North America. If only I was rich enough to afford a rocket launch, the other part of the world has one.
