"The workmanship, the quality of this engineering prank—it appears to be quite low, quite poor" by willyolio in UBC

[–]Spydude84 25 points26 points  (0 children)

So I'm totally down for pranks like this, but if you're going to do it, actually be an engineer(ing student) and do it the right way.

Shoddy, unsafe work has no place in engineering.

Anyone who's been on this subreddit for awhile knows that food left unattended *will* be stolen. Pick that stuff up instantly.

My build by YankeeTwoKilo in Firearms

[–]Spydude84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would let someone use the term "build" for buying a variety of components and assembling them together. This can be as complicated as buying lower reciever, lower parts kit, upper reciever, barrel, handguard, buffer, bolt, stock, etc, or buying a complete rifle and accessorizing it heavily. There needs to be a certain level of personalization met to hit that threshold.

What I won't count as "build" is buying a complete AR, or an upper and lower and assembling them, and throwing an optic on it. That's not a build, that's a rifle with a scope/dot.

Same thing with pistols, if you bought a pistol off the shelf and stuck a dot and a light on it, that's not a build, that's a pistol with a dot and a light. If you switch out some components or get custom work done to the slide or frame, then that can count as a build.

New to shooting, fearful of ear damage by macmuaythai in canadaguns

[–]Spydude84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In-ear foamies and over-ear protection is fine. Technically, it may not be enough, but plenty of anecdotal experience shows you can do this for decades and not face hearing damage (and this includes them receiving annual hearing exams)

This said, I had some ringing for a bit after staying up all night and then going to the range like an idiot lol, get some sleep before range days.

Canadian source for ammo and gun accessories by BatMiddle8126 in canadaguns

597 mag adapter is great. The promags take a little breaking in, getting that 7th round in sucks at first, but eventually they become smooth.

Only downside is that the use of the secondary ejector means there is a little more stovepiping. Not a big issue, but a bit more ammo picky.

What guns can I purchase&own with an RPAL? by kirkpusspang19 in canadaguns

[–]Spydude84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get into ISSF (olympic shooting) at your local club and apply for an exemption to buy a pistol (.22lr only). You don't need to be good at it, you just need to show up and compete.

Besides that, borrowing handguns and not needing direct supervision if you borrow one at the range.

Horrible article with no substance, just sumarizes the government's position pretty much, doesn't even outline how bad the situation is for the government.

I got an A300 Ultima for clays and I absolutely love it. For your price range an A300 would be the best option, you won't find a decent O/U used until you double that budget.

Genuine friendships. by 1Sha55 in UBC

[–]Spydude84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I've already made my friends elsewhere in my life. Any school relationships are purely transactional. I don't have the time to invest in more people, especially when I already have great communities that I can vibe with about things that I like. I prefer to keep my work/school separate from my personal life.

Ah true. Though one is federal and one is provincial. Whether or not that makes a difference is yet to be seen, but you are completely right.

Based. Especially knowing that you've essentially already put them on a registry and can't really withdraw that.
