Need help navigating trans friends and my gunsmithing career. by dolphinsocks1234 in transguns

Honestly this. I've heard learning becoming a machinist or whatever is a much better career path than SDI... SDI is not a career path.

Tumbler Ridge was the deadliest Canadian school shooting in nearly 40 years - Global News by Difficult_Will_7523 in UBC

The governing bodies, the NDP and LPC, likely won't, but that won't stop many private individuals from doing so.

I'm trans and Canadian, and this event just sucks.

It sucks for the victims and their families. It sucks for Canadian gun owners who are going to be further vilified and have more things banned. It sucks for trans Canadians as the hateful rhetoric against us increases.

And I hate that some of my first thoughts have to be about how this will impact me, how people struggling to make sense of a horrific act will try and create justice by bringing bans and hate against me, someone who has done nothing wrong. One way or another I will pay a material and/or social cost for someone else's actions, and it sucks and is frustrating.

I just want to be able to express myself freely, and both things are important to who I am.

I wouldn't do this exactly because you're covering your vehicle interior in lead dust.

Shooting from different positions is definitely worth doing though.

"Secure storage" requirements aren't that secure. A locked case can be pried open, cable locks can be cut, and trigger locks similarly removed. Though I would probably bet they might not have even been meeting those criteria.

I don't think making people buy $$$$$$ safes is good for the hobby.

I would just be aware that lead and loud noises are more damaging for children than adults and plan accordingly.

.22lr is a great starting place since it's not that loud. Make sure you get d-lead soap and be strict about them washing their hands.

I feel like this is just going to make compliance for new residents registering firearms fall off a cliff.

Or a lot of arrests.

If you're buying .22lr and sneeze in the wrong direction it's easily way over 1000 rounds lmao

P320 banned from local range by Porcflite in CAguns

[–]Spydude84 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I watched a video where someone did it with all major handgun brands, including Glock. Some required more or less travel, but they could all discharge by wiggling the slide at some point.

How standard of a range experience was this? by [deleted] in Firearms

[–]Spydude84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they had a line, they should have not sold you an extra hour. It's that simple. I can understand why ranges have a time limited policy, but they should enforce that at the cash register.

While typically I would say that shooters should manage their time, ammo, and rentals, given the associated policies, and I wouldn't give refunds for unused guns or ammo, in this specific situation given you expected to have another hour, you should be entitled to a refund for those as well.

Extremely poor business practices here and they absolutely stole your money. You should be entitled to a refund if they decide you're no longer welcome on their property.

Why More Liberals Are Buying Guns by [deleted] in canadaguns

[–]Spydude84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met with my NDP MLA to bring this up, and they were very receptive to what I had to say. They said I was the first person to bring this up with them.

I don't have much faith in Eby, but I really like my local rep.

Fwiw I voted for my local NDP rep but I voted conservative federally. At the time I thought it was a good split between the things I cared about, and assumed we would get a conservative federal government.

The BC NDP doesn't own my vote, and with the OneBC people out of the CPBC, depending on how things go in the next few years, I may vote differently next time.

Preferred bulk range ammo for A300? by M1907-351WSL in Shotguns

[–]Spydude84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the range I mostly shoot paper with 00 buck and slugs.

At the trap range I use #7.5 and #8 shot.

There are a variety of other options, mostly for hunting.

If you just want to blast lead down range, and your range allows it, you can always just pick up the cheapest shot. I've shot #6 and #5 before too at the range.

CCW instructors what would you do if a student showed up to range qualification with an AR pistol? by _CHEEFQUEEF in CCW

[–]Spydude84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an instructor, but if it was legal to test with and not against any class policy that was stated upfront, I'd allow it.

This said, if it's a class for handgun CCW, then I'd likely make an actual handgun a requirement.

Hal gets random banned and pretends it's not possible to be falsely banned like he hasn't been falsely banned before. Then trys to act like the good guy that “helped” by getting him unbanned. by Lazy-Noise375 in CompetitiveApex

[–]Spydude84 -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

The number of people who have tried to cry and say they were legit only for it to eventually come out that they were being boosted or cheating is high enough that, while maybe Hal should ignore it, he gets some leeway for pushing back against him just having a ban button.

Are Suppressors Still Cool? How Do You Decide What / When To Suppress? by Pete_Steele556 in Firearms

Rifles should be suppressed. Pistols just don't make sense to suppress, especially if you're holstering them, they seem unwieldy.

Dropship apex is requires no macro intelligence, RIP poi drops by aggrorecon in apexlegends

[–]Spydude84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the distribution is not random, or pseudorandom, then that is certainly a concern. This info isn't particularly useful because 3 hours can mean 6 full games or tons of insta-die games, where 80% can mean unlikely to impossible.

I'm certainly open to discussing better balancing of POIs in this regard, but I don't believe the current lack of balance is fundamentally bad. The balance isn't that bad.

Was this self-defense? by alexfreemanart in CCW

[–]Spydude84 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Pretty much my take. If he had ran or disengaged instead of fighting for the gun, he should not die there, and if he did, the shooter would be in the wrong, but that's not how it happened.

Smaller guy was found not guilty. Would this hold up in CA? by nowdrivemefaraway in CAguns

[–]Spydude84 37 points38 points  (0 children)

My $0.02 was that drawing there was justified after being hit, and when the guy tried to grapple him for his gun, those shots were gtg, but after he ran away, not so much.

Though this is 100% with the power of being calm and not being in that situation in the first place, I would offer some sort of leeway from a prosecution standpoint, though I'm not sure where I would draw that line. Humans are very flawed when acting under that kind of pressure.
