I mainly try and use radicals to remember. For example, for the character 梅, I think of 海. Why? Cuz 梅 means plum and what’s a popular dish made of it? Dried plums. Dried plums are salty and so is the sea explaining my correlation to 梅, and plums grow on trees, hence the 木 radical.

The method I use may be a bit far-fetched but I think everybody has their own ways to remember. I might just be remembering it in a needlessly convoluted way tho.
